Her recital will feature pieces from Purcell, Bernstein, Strauss, and Donizetti and highlight her love for French repertoire with a set of romantic Reynaldo Hahn art songs and two pieces from Delibes' Lakme. These pieces will include the virtuosic Bell Song, and the charming Flower Duet, on which she will be joined by third year soprano, Sarah Sherman. From film screenings to lectures, there is something for everyone. "Ode to Glass," featuring student performances by the New Music Ensemble, University Chamber Singers and MICE (Mobile Interactive Computer Ensemble). Each ensemble will perform selections of Philip Glass's works. Glass will then present a public lecture on creativity and collaboration in the arts following the concert, which will culminate with a question-and-answer session led by Music Department Chair Richard Will. Graduate Student Sarah O'Halloran Music Drama Stitching Performed at Dorothy Betts Marvin Theater McIntire Department of Music graduate student Sarah O’Halloran is one of GWU’s Artists-in-Residence for 2013/2014. During her residency she is working on a music drama called Stitching, which will be performed by GWU faculty and students on April 4th and 5th at 7.30pm at the Dorothy Betts Marvin Theater. Stitching is a collaboration between composer Sarah O’Halloran and playwright Colin Stanley Bell. It tells the story of Lana, a teenager, who has lived with her grandmother since her mother’s death. Isolated from their community Lana and Nana share a highly imaginative world, full of fantastic stories that protect them from harsh realities. Recently Nana has become frail and her memory is failing, so Lana cares for her. Fearing being separated by the authorities they have kept Nana’s problems secret, but people are starting to notice. Lana resolves to find Nana’s memories and keep them safe. This quest takes Lana on an interplanetary adventure, through time and space. The story is told through narration, songs, instrumental music, and projected images. |  |
