Daft Punk
What's new on Clash Music this week

Why is the world breaking into a sweat over the release of a new Daft Punk album? Seriously guys, get a grip.

The Parisian pair’s last essential material was released over a decade ago. And while 2001’s ‘Discovery’ – the duo’s second album – retains its classic reputation, scratch beneath the surface and it’s not really all that. A bunch of forgotten ‘70s funk cuts with new beats beneath them: is this really the work of dancefloor geniuses?

Daft Punk’s third studio album, 2005’s ‘Human After All’, was a distinctly below average affair. And since then, it’s as if a collective blind eye, not to mention deaf ear, has been turned to the group’s utter lack of decent music.

There was the Disney soundtrack, 'Tron: Legacy'. The cosying up to a certain soft drink maker. And then, Electroma: their preposterous film that seemed to attract attention purely because of the act attached to it. Any praise for it seemed particularly laboured...

Clash Music Features
Iron & Wine

Iron & Wine's Sam Beam has a plan. Each day, he takes his kids to school, passing the early morning traffic before returning to his house. There – secluded, alone – he is able to relax, create; pouring himself into countless songs, writings and paintings as he does so.

It’s a effortlessly sweet, quaint picture. Yet this is seemingly Sam Beam’s working method – instead of focussing on reaching enough tracks to fill an album, he simply hones in on the craft of the song. “I do think it’s important to be there, put the time in and treat it like a job” he tells Clash on the phone from his home in Texas. “That doesn’t sound fun but I really enjoy it. Like I said – some days are better than others, for sure.”…

Clash Music ReviewsIggy & The Stooges

‘Raw Power’ stands as a benchmark album that opened the door to punk some forty years ago; it was also the first time that the name Iggy & The Stooges  appeared. Incredibly, the album met with poor commercial success back then, yet stands as one of the most influential recordings of our time.

One might then question the wisdom of trying to follow it up after so long, but the main man suggests the reasoning to be that they were “a real fucking group” and that merely “twiddling on stage” would not suffice. Respect to that notion then, but is there any merit in the result?

Fashion
Trine Lindegaard

All of five days ago-they launched Trine Lindegaard 's spring summer collection with a soiree of friends and fans, while the shop space itself currently plays home to an intense installation of fabric and colour. The latter is a result of Trine's inspiration and close work with Kenyan textiles; all the materials for her SS13 range are handmade by a small family run business in Accra. The installation meanwhile sees throws of the same nature hanging on the wall, matching tees and shorts on top of these and a selection of look book images intwined with some key notes, plus two smart figures standing on a shelf. Well worth a nosey....
