Smithsonian Civil War discussion and book signing

Several of the National Portrait Gallery's Civil War objects are featured in the new book Smithsonian Civil War: Inside the National Collection. National Portrait Gallery historian James Barber and his colleagues from around the Smithsonian will discuss the book and the hundreds of objects in the Smithsonian collections.

Join us as James Barber, historian at the Portrait Gallery, and David Miller, and Jennifer Jones, curators at the Museum of American History, discuss the making of Smithsonian Civil War: Inside the National Collection (Smithsonian Books). 

A book signing follows the program.

Smithsonian Civil War is a lavishly illustrated coffee-table book featuring 150 entries commemorating 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Listen as Barber, Jones, and Miller discuss:

Among the objects, prints, photographs, and art works are items connected to Abraham Lincoln (including his watch, top hat, and the inkstand he used to write the Emancipation Proclamation).
