Mary, you can't do anything about it XP support ending, but here's what you can do to ensure that you have a safe system. If your computer is capable of handling a new system, you can upgrade to Windows 7 or to Windows 8. You can download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your system is compatible by clicking here. You can download Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant to see if your system is compatible by clicking here. Or you can choose to buy a new computer. Most new computers will have Windows 8 installed. You might be able to find a computer with Windows 7 or have one built and 7 installed as the operating system. Disable Windows 8 Mode in Google Chrome Yeah, I finally did it – I made the jump to Windows 8. I probably wouldn't have, except for the fact that it came pre-installed on my new computer, so I figured "what the hey, I'll give it a shot". And honestly, it's not a whole lot different from 7 functionality-wise; just a much more invasive Start menu – like, it takes up the whole flippin' screen… In fact, the only peeve I've got so far has to do with Google Chrome's and its "Windows 8 Mode". It not that it's bad, necessarily, it's just that it take away some creature comforts, like the menu bar… …that, and there's no way to get out of it once activated. This frustrated me enough to start digging around in the Windows Registry, so if you're uncomfortable with the following steps, please consult a professional to help you out. Otherwise, put on your gloves and prepare to be wholly underwhelmed with how easy this is. Hit your Windows key, type in Regedit and hit Enter. The Regedit screen will pop up. …and change the value from a 1 to a 0 (zero). Now, click File, then Exit to leave Regedit. This will force Chrome to go back to its Windows 7 iteration, thus restoring your toolbar and the ability to browse from the Windows 8 desktop instead of the "metro" interface – two things I find extremely useful, and hope you do, too! Facebook Login Now Available For Windows And Windows Phone Facebook Login is now available for Windows 8/8.1 and Windows phones. It allows users to user their Facebook identity to comment on web posts, play games, log in to apps and share playlists.Some developers take advantage of that Facebook information to customize games and apps to the user's preference also to attempt to sell you things. The idea is that if you make logging in a simpler process, consumers will be more likely to try new apps that they would if they had to set up a new account. It's part of Microsoft's push to beef up the offerings in their Windows App Stores which has often been criticized for having significantly fewer apps than the Apple or Android App Store. Flash Drive: How To Format/Erase Everything Don from New Mexico writes: How do I delete all the information off a flash drive, so that I can put new information on it? Answer: Formatting a flash drive will wipe all the information off of the drive. Start by inserting the flash drive into your computer. Click on Computer (Windows 7) or My Computer (Windows XP) and right click on your flash drive and click format. In the format screen, you'll see the capacity of the drive and various technical information. The only piece of information you should need to change is the Volume Label, which is the name that will appear next to the drive letter for your flash drive. 10 Outdoor Winter Activities For Kids Winter doesn't have to mean staying cooped up indoors for kids, instead it can mean a lot of fun time spent doing activities outside. This two page article offers up tips for preparing your kids to play outside in the winter and then offers up 1o fun activities they can do outside. I think my favorites were blowing bubbles, geocaching, and hiking. I never knew that you could blow bubbles outside in the winter and watch them turn into ice. I might have to try that with some of the catnip bubbles we have stocked for our kitties. I also like the geocaching and hiking idea because the geocaching (where you go on a scavenger hunt to find things that people have left places with clues) is a great reason to go hiking! I would have been all over that as a kid!
