| Being spotted as a TV News journalist by a renowned filmmaker, Smita tread her path to become a successful actress who did roles she strongly believed in. In a span of ten years of her career she did more than eighty films that include Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali and Gujarati films and bagged many awards for her outstanding performance. She was a feminist and accepted roles that stood for women's rights and issues. Unfortunately she passed away at a very young age, when she was 31.
