Art Museum Day: May 18 NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY Art Museum Day is celebrated around the world! Join us May 18 to explore the National Portrait Gallery and learn about the importance of museums and art. Take a docent tour of our permanent collection, visit special exhibitions, enjoy a concert, or participate in family programs! Docent's Choice Tours | 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Meet in the F Street lobby Look for our friendly docent who will give a tour of one of the following: highlights of the museum, the "America's Presidents" exhibition, or one of the special exhibitions currently on view. Cineconcert: Andrew E. Simpson and "Ben-Hur" | 1:00 p.m. Nan Tucker McEvoy Auditorium Acclaimed pianist and composer Andrew E. Simpson will premiere his original score for "Ben-Hur" (1925) during a screening of the film. This epic adventure film, featuring high-speed chariot races and action-packed battles, was one of the most elaborate, expensive and technically advanced movies of the silent era. This program is free, but tickets are required. Pick up free tickets beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the G Street Lobby. Limit two tickets per person. Portrait Story Days: Anna May Wong | 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. First floor, education center, room E151 Young visitors and their families may drop in to listen to a story about an influential person in the Portrait Gallery's collection and create a piece of art inspired by his or her life and portrait. Portrait Discovery Kits | 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Portrait Discovery Kits offer a self-guided tour, "Seek and Find" cards, "Portrait Detective" and "Historian Guides," and a "Compare and Contrast" activity using a doll. Visitors can check out kits just outside of the education center, room E151 on the first floor.
