Abrams would stay on to helm Episodes 8 & 9 of the new Star Wars trilogy, we may have your answer. According to Deadline, the answer is a resounding no. The site is reporting that Disney and Lucasfilm are currently in negotiations with Looper's Rian Johnson to take over the franchise and write and direct the next two installments that are set to hit theaters in 2017 and 2019. No word on why Abrams won't return to helm the entire trilogy, but we know he originally turned down directing Episode VII due to the long commitment and being away from his family for so long, so we're guessing an additional four year commitment may have been too much for him.
