Afternoon on 3: The Silver Tassie

Afternoon on 3's opera matinee is a recording from the ENO of Mark Anthony Turnage’s ‘The Silver Tassie’, based on Sean O'Casey's play about the First World War. The programme also includes partsongs by Ernest Farrar who was killed after two days on the Western Front.

Featured Concert: Vienna Philharmonic live from Sarajevo

One hundred years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the Vienna Philharmonic gives an historic concert with the Opera Choir of the National Theatre of Sarajevo. in a gesture of international peace and friendship, the concert will be broadcast live across Europe from the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The death of Georg Philipp Telemann

During his long and remarkably prolific life, Telemann was recognised as the leading German composer of the Baroque era. He wrote a wealth of innovative music and brought music to the public with regular performances and the sale of his work. He continued to compose music until his death on the evening of 25 June 1767.
