Variety reports that Shooter & Lethal Weapon 4 writer Jonathan Lemkin has been hired to write the screenplay for G.I. Joe 3 and it will focus on Dwayne Johnson's character "Roadblock". Johnson was introduced in last year's G.I. Joe Retaliation, which was an attempt to somewhat reboot the franchise after the critical and financial disappointment of the first film. Retaliation actually ended up making less than the first film in the US, but did well oversees, bringing in over $370 million worldwide, enough for the studio to greenlight a 3rd film. In addition to Johnson, co-star Adrianne Palicki will also return as "Lady Jaye".
