THR reports that Disney has hired Transformers franchise writer Ehren Kruger to pen the script for a live-action version of their 1941 classic, Dumbo. The original film focused on a baby circus elephant with large ears who is separated from his mother and is mentored by a mouse who helps him discover his gift of flight. Dumbo clocked in at a mere 64 minutes, so word is the idea of the live-action version will parallel Dumbo's story with that of a "unique family story". Disney has so far had much success with adapting their animated films to live-action. 2010's Alice in Wonderland starring Johnny Depp grossed over a billion dollars worldwide and a sequel is set for May 27th, 2016.
