Long before individual presidential libraries were established, the Library of Congress was considered the first presidential library. Beginning with George Washington's, the Library has custody of the papers of 23 presidents.
The Library's Manuscript Division houses the nation's oldest and most comprehensive presidential library with a collection that exceeds two million. It includes personal correspondence and many of the earliest papers have been digitized. Browse segments of the collection here.

Warren G. Harding's love letters revealed
More than 50 years after their discovery and addition to the Library's Manuscript Division, of approximately 1,000 pages of love letters between Warren G. Harding and his mistress, Carrie Fulton Phillips, will open to the public on July 29.
The Library will present a program to discuss the collection at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Located in the Mumford Room of the James Madison Building
Drawn from the Library's collections, our book includes 100 presidential political campaign posters ready to frame, plus it features more than 1,000 other posters covering a wide variety of subjects during elections. Each stunningly visual poster explores the time period they represent along with historical commentary.
