eBooks are giving physical copies a run for their money with a growth of 43% in sales. Those numbers only include volumes with ISBN numbers, so when you add in self-published books, you'll find even more growth.

These Things Are IMPORTANT!

If they get ripped up, bent, torn, stained, or lost... you're in for a huge headache! Especially if you don't realize it until you're staring up at a badge through your window!

The reality is: your registration and proof of insurance are NECESSITIES and anything that makes sure they're pristine and ready to access is going to make your life a whole lot easier!

This thing is simple: you pop your papers inside the clear plastic slots and put the whole thing in your glove box!

It velcros shut and keep your papers safe from anything! The hard exterior stops everything from bends to tears to spilled drinks!

And when it's folded back up, it takes up practically no space at all!

Just pop it back in your glove box until you need it!

Even if you never get pulled over in your life, it's GREAT for keeping those documents organized!

Oh, and if you do get pulled over... you can just flip this open! The clear sleeves let the officer see all your details without you having to fumble around to find them all!

Suffice to say, I keep my documents in one of these, so does my wife, and even our kids!

There's just no reason NOT to use one.

It's safer, more convenient, and they're only $2.00! WOW!

Computers 101

PlayOnLinux- RUn Windows Apps On Linux

One of the main reasons many computer users don't want to switch from Windows to a free Linux-based operating system is that they need specific applications and/or games for which the developer does not provide a Linux version. There are three ways of running Windows programs on a Linux platform:

  • Wine, which is an emulator for Windows-based software

  • PlayOnLinux, a front-end application for Wine

  • VMWare or VirtualBox, which allows you to create a virtual computer inside your Linux OS and install Windows just like on a real Windows machine.

You can learn more about Wine by clicking here, so I will focus on PlayOnLinux in this article.

Note: the above methods are available and work with all Linux distributions like: Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc. and their derivatives.

For this article I will discuss Ubuntu.

Open the Software Center by clicking the appropriate icon from your dashboard.

When Software Center opens...

Smart Magnifier Turns Your Phone Into A Magnifying Glass

There's a nifty little app called Smart Magnifier that uses your Smartphone's camera as a magnifying glass. You can find it in the Google Play Store and it's absolutely free. Just tap to purchase and install.

When you open it the screen looks like this:

Yep, that's an ad at the top. It's the price you pay for the "free ap." Let's check out the controls...

Harold writes:

I have Win.8 OS.How do you stop the computer from going back to the start screen and having to enter my password after 1 to 2 min. of inactivity on another screen? Ex: e-mail It times out too quick.

That can be pretty annoying, Harold. Fortunately, it's easy to fix. First of all, let's open up that incredibly useful Search Charm and select Settings, then type in "lock the computer."

Select Lock the computer when I leave it alone for a period of time from the results.

This window will open...

One More Big Deal

90 dB is LOUD!

In fact, smoke detectors are generally about 100 dB! So you KNOW when this thing goes off, you'll be hearing it!

We all could use a little more home security, but who wants to pay out hundreds a year (plus installation fees!) for some overcomplicated mess?

These little door/window alarms are all you need!

See, they come with an alarm and a sensor.

You put the sensor on the frame, and the alarm on the door or window, with the opening in between!

I don't think it could get any simpler than that!

(Of course, you can turn it off with the simple switch whenever you want! So you don't have to hear it EVERY time that door or window opens, just when you know it shouldn't be!)

Don't think of this as just protection against intruders - these work GREAT for keeping tabs on any cabinets or interior doors too!

If you want to make sure a young child isn't getting into the cleaning products, or making sure you know when your business's delivery door is being opened, this is the best solution!

You won't find ANY security company that can compete with just $2.00 for an alarm that you can setup in seconds! It's just too good!

This sale is INSANE - but it only lasts until Saturday when these go up to $8.97 !

Perfect Pounce

I really love coyotes. I know, not everyone is a fan, but I can't help it – they're one of my favorite animals. I think the reason for this favoritism might stem from my admiration of the aerial pounce they sometimes use when pursuing prey. Their approach is decidedly cat-like in its execution and incredibly graceful to watch. For example…(More)

Stormy Sunset At Sleeping Bear

Talk about a last chance! We had been trying for three days to get something – anything – at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It doesn't seem to be a great morning location, so that left us with just three chances - one for each evening we were there. The first evening saw...(More)

Daybreak

The waterfall you see in the photo is the final plunge for Chapel Creek before it empties into Lake Superior. It always makes an interesting cut through the sand – but – you just never quite know what path it'll take. Most of the time, it likes to wind off to the right, but a gale force weather event pushed the sand back in, making the new cut anybody's guess. Even with that wildcard in mind, I decided to...(More)
