Clones of proxy server taken down by police begin to emerge Clones of proxy service Immunicity have begun appearing online, less than a week after the original was taken offline by the City Of London Police's IP Crime Unit, PIPCU. As previously reported, PIPCU took a number of proxy services offline last week and arrested one man in connection with him running a server that enabled others to circumvent blockades put in place by internet service providers under court order to stop people accessing piracy websites. In seems that the service that man was running was Immunicity. Officials have confirmed that a 20 year old man from Nottingham was arrested for operating a proxy which gave access to 36 blocked websites in total. He was released on bail shortly afterwards and it remains unclear what, if any, charges will now be brought against him. Although Immunicity remains offline (a holding page informing users that they have "tried to access a website that is under criminal investigation by the UK"), TorrentFreak reports that at least two clones of the proxy, using the same or similar names, have already sprung up, offering the same functionality free of charge. A key criticism of web-blocking has been that getting around the blocks is not at all difficult for those willing to find out. Though content owners would argue that making users of illegal content jump through extra hoops to do so, as well as educating them that what they're accessing is illegal, makes it worthwhile. However, if two new services emerge from each that is taken down, it's not clear who exactly is in the lead in this game of cat and mouse. Also, The Pirate Bay claims that its userbase has doubled since 2011, despite the increase in web-blocking at ISP level in the UK and elsewhere. |

Universal says 'no comment' on claims Morrissey has been dropped Universal has declined to comment on claims made by Morrissey's True To You fansite that the singer has been dropped by the Harvest imprint of the mega-major's Capitol division. It was widely reported over the weekend that the label had dropped Morrissey just three weeks after the release of his latest album, 'World Peace Is None Of Your Business'. The news was based on claims made by his True To You fansite, which said on Saturday: "Three weeks after the release of Morrissey's 'World Peace Is None Of Your Business' (#2 UK, #14 US), Capitol Records/Harvest have ended their relationship with Morrissey, as directed by label boss Steve Barnett. Morrissey is once again in search of a record label". The 'dropped by Harvest' claim followed mild criticism of the label by Morrissey for not producing a decent video for the album's title track, while at the same time praising DIY efforts made by fans. Though if mild label-dissing was a reason for dropping artists, there wouldn't be many still with record deals. In June this year, True To You published a similar article to its latest claims, saying that Morrissey had ended his 30 year partnerships with Warner/Chappell and was seeking a new publishing deal. At the time, Warner/Chappell told CMU that it would not usually comment on such claims. However, given how widely they had been reported, a spokesperson did confirm that Warner/Chappell remains the publisher for Morrissey's Smiths and solo songs, including his latest album. -------------------------------------------------- Nathan Fake baptises new label with split single Alt-dance beatmaker Nathan Fake has joined with his friend, peer and Border Community co-signee Wesley Matsell to invent a new label, Cambria Instruments. Taking its name from Fake's love of British history, as well as more directly from the ancient way to say 'Wales' (aka Matsell's place of birth), Cambria's first release, available now, is a split single featuring a track each from Fake and Matsell. Nathan swears that his track, 'Black Drift', and Matsell's, titled 'Bismuth', show off "new esoteric melodies and textures previously unheard from both artists", a promise you can confirm (or not) by listening to them here. |

HMV's flagship Tokyo store re-opens with vinyl focus Four years after being closed down, what was Tokyo's flagship HMV store in the Shibuya district has reopened, specialising in vinyl and second hand CDs. The six floor shop was shut in August 2010, shortly before convenience store chain Lawson bought HMV's Japanese business. The Shibuya area is still well-served by record retailers though - from small independents to the massive Tower Records - despite the record industry in the country experiencing considerable decline of late, especially in the last eighteen months. Nonetheless, HMV Japan reckons it's found the right time and place to stage a comeback for its largest store. Lawson HMV Entertainment exec Masato Komatsu told Qetic that before opening the store, he and his team had visited various record shops in Japan and overseas as research. As a result, it was felt that "specialisation" would be the key to the re-opened store's success, in competition with online retailers like Amazon, and other establish physical stores. Komatsu says that he sees the target market at launch as people in their 40s and above who still own record players, though hopes that, by stocking new releases (which make up 20-30% of stock), it will attract a younger audience too - who can buy the required hardware in store if needs be. HMV is also working with artists to press exclusive limited edition seven-inches. Look through some photographs of the new HMV Shibuya here. |

Kate Bush photo expo opening soon in London So good news, people; while all of the world's aristocracy are popping bottles at Kate Bush's extravagantly-priced headline shows in London this month, we plebs can all imbibe a bit of Bush-based ambience too, by going to look at lots of photographs of the star for a reasonable fee. From 26 Aug to 2 Oct, Snap Galleries in the capital are hosting a showcase of candid and rarely-displayed images of KB taken by Guido Harari and Gered Mankowitz. Both Mankowitz (who helped define the 'aesthetic' of KB's early releases, even styling her 'look' on the 'Wuthering Heights' single sleeve), and Harari (who did the 'Hounds Of Love' cover and promotional shots for 1989's 'The Sensual World') have solo books coming out to chime with Bush's comeback, which is a nice coincidence I guess, given the exhibition and all the hype around those London shows. I think they may have realised that already. Giving an insight into Bush's behaviour whilst on a shoot, Mankowitz says: "She was very energetic and full of ideas. One of the things was to try and focus her - sometimes she would just want to move on if something wasn't working. She didn't understand the process". Similarly admiring of Kate's photographic know-how, Harari adds of his 'underwater'-style shoot with her for 'The Sensual World': "In those days there was no Photoshop, so I was shooting multiple shots in the same frame and she had to move in and out of the set constantly. She couldn't understand what I was doing and got restless and bored. Although these shots were not used, she loved the result". Get details and tickets to the KB exhibition here. |

| | Approved: Kasper Bjørke - TNR Why aren't there more songs about fonts? Kasper Bjørke's 'TNR' just happens to be the best song about a typeface since Towa Tei and Kylie's 'German Bold Italic' from 1998. I can't actually think of any others though, so this may well be the only such song since then. Actually, I'd like to see someone do a concept album with each song named after a different font (see also: tube lines); popstars - let me know when this has been done please. Anyway. Danish producer Bjørke has turned in a somnambulant slice of disco, with morose vocals (from Jaakko Eino Kalevi) cooing "Times New Roman" amid dreamy synths that make the whole thing a lovely soothing slice of electro-pop that sounds like a particularly relaxed When Saints Go Machine. The accompanying new album 'After Forever' is released on 22 Sep on HFN Music, whilst 'TNR' itself is out on the 18 Aug. The video is previewing now. | CLICK HERE to read and share online | | |

Gorgon City are only gonna release a bloody album in October Popular music-making duo Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott, aka Foamo and RackNRuin, have announced their debut album as Gorgon City. 'Sirens' will be released through Universal/Virgin EMI/Black Butter on 6 Oct. The album will be preceded by a new single called 'Unmissable' on 29 Sep. It features vocals from Zak Abel, whoever that is. Doesn't matter, it's sure to be a hit. Hit, hit, hit. That's what I say. Listen to it, it's just so... so... so... um, well, it's so... the new single from popular music duo Gorgon City. Oh, and you know how they like working with guest vocalists, like the undeniable Zak Abel? Well, there are loads on the album. You want instrumentals? BAD LUCK, MATE. Take a look at this tracklist: Coming Home (feat Maverick Sabre) Ready For Your Love (feat MNEK) Lover Like You (feat Katy B) Here For You (feat Laura Welsh) FTPA (feat Erik Hassle) Go All Night (feat Jennifer Hudson) Unmissable (feat Zak Abel) Real (feat Yasmin) Imagination (feat Katy Menditta) 6am (feat Tish Hyman) Elevate (feat Anne-Marie) Take It All (feat The Six) Hard On Me (feat Maverick Sabre) -------------------------------------------------- Kindness shares LP details, new track Mr Kindness himself, real name Adam Bainbridge, has lifted the figurative lid on his latest LP, 'World, You Need A Change Of Mind' follow-on 'Otherness', which is hitting retailers near and far on 13 Oct. Going by its lead single 'World Restart', it's going to be a house-y, funk-y kind of animal, and features the likes of Robyn, M.anifest, Tawiah and Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange on vocals, and mixes/beats/backing by Odd Future's Syd Tha Kid, Blue May and Jimmy 'The Senator' Douglass. My fave Kelela and Ade can be heard singing on 'World Restart' by basically clicking 'play' on it now. And this is the 'Otherness' tracklisting: World Restart (feat Kelela & Ade) This Is Not About Us I'll Be Back Who Do You Love? (feat Robyn) 8th Wonder (feat M.anifest) With You (feat Kelela) Geneva For The Young Why Don't You Love Me (feat Devonté Hynes & Tawiah) It'll Be OK -------------------------------------------------- Sony finds 'lost' Blak Twang album The 'lost' debut album from UK rapper Blak Twang, 'Dettwork SouthEast', is to be released through Sony Music next month. Although cassette promos of 'Dettwork SouthEast' were sent out to journalists by short-lived indie label Sound Of Money, the 1996 long player never made it to a commercial release. Nonetheless, the few copies in existence have helped it achieve an almost mythical status in UK hip hop circles in subsequent years - Hip Hop Connection magazine putting it at number three in a list of the 50 best UK hip hop albums ever in 2007. Featuring collaborations with Roots Manuva, Jehst, Rodney P and others, the album will finally be available to all from 22 Sep. Says Blak Twang himself: "For the 'Dettwork SouthEast' album to finally get a release now, as it deserved when it was first recorded in 1996, is quite incredible. The reason this has been possible is really due to the fans, who have been the never-ending fuel that have kept the fire blazing and the engines running. It was the genesis of my career and really defined what I've gone on to achieve since then, so for everyone to get behind this project and truly believe in it has been amazing!" There will be a launch party for the album, also on 22 Sep, at The Jazz Café in London, tickets for which go on sale tomorrow. Here's the album's title track, and here's the tracklist: Stand Clear Of The Doors Dettwork SouthEast Fearless Heads & Tales Tai Boxing Crème De La Crop Entrepreneurs (feat Drezzo The Brigadier of The Bloodhoundz) Growing Up Paralytic Monkey (feat Fallacy) Real Estate B.S. Survivah Echo Chamber (feat Roots Manuva and Seanie T) Rhyming is Forever Dettwork London Revisited (Dettwork SouthEast Remix- feat Jehst, Rodney P and Samson aka Black The Ripper) |

Jamie T to headline winter shows Pop's #1 London everyboi Jamie T (who's back in case you didn't know) gave his new single 'Zombie' its first play last night, live on air with BBC Radio 1 rock jock Zane Lowe. And this is it, first off. The track will precede by a week JT's post-break LP 'Carry On The Grudge', which hits the shops on 29 Sep. And another thing. Jamie is playing a chain of big-sized shows later in the year, this following his short string of 'intimate' dates last month. Fans can unlock tickets to the shows from this Friday. The listings are thus: 30 Oct: Bristol, Academy 31 Oct: Southampton, Guildhall 1 Nov: Norwich, UEA 3 Nov: Newcastle, Academy 4 Nov: Nottingham, Rock City 7 Nov: Manchester Academy 8 Nov: Leeds, Academy 10 Nov: Glasgow, Barrowlands 13 Nov: Birmingham, Academy 14 Nov: London, Alexandra Palace -------------------------------------------------- Kerbdog are going on tour, but not before they release a live album Nine years on from what was supposed to be a one-off reunion show, Kerbdog are still going strong, with a UK tour and new live album release coming up later this year. Kerb-what? Kerbdog. Come on, you remember. They released two albums, the second of which, 'On The Turn', was something of a masterpiece. No? Well, don't take my word for it, this press release that just arrived in my inbox has included quotes from people you've heard of to help out. "Kerbdog were one of my gateway bands", says Frank Turner off of the Olympics. While Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil adds: "It's a crime that Kerbdog are not held aloft by every band in the country as heroes". So, there you go. Now, what about this live album? Well, it's called 'Congregation', and it's made up of recordings of gigs in Dublin, Bristol and London from last year. It features fifteen live tracks, as well as a new studio recording of a song called 'Soaking Wet'. A track from 'back in the day', the previously unreleased b-side was supposed to be their first US single, before the band were dropped by Mercury back in 1997 spoiling the whole thing. Says frontman Cormac Battle of the release: "When I heard the recent live recordings, it dawned on me that we had a major document on our hands, something hardcore Dog fans would love to hear. It's blown up into this proper release, and crucially, without all the bullshit. It's a very exciting time for Kerbdog". 'Congregation' is out on 6 Oct, with live dates in November looking like this: 14 Nov: Dublin, Academy 15 Nov: Manchester, The Ritz 16 Nov: London, The Forum 17 Nov: Bristol, Bierkeller 18 Nov: Plymouth, White Rabbit 19 Nov: Southampton, Talking Heads 20 Nov: Birmingham, The Oobleck 21 Nov: Nottingham, Rock City Basement 22 Nov: Glasgow, Ivory Blacks -------------------------------------------------- Well, Ballet School are going on quite the tour As we have already established, Ballet School are going to releasing their debut album, 'The Dew Lasts An Hour', on 1 Sep. Let's not get into all that again. Let's talk tour dates instead! Yes. Let's. The band (Ballet School) are going to be touring in November in both the United Kingdom and Ireland. Very swish. Look, dates: 11 Nov: Leeds, Belgrave Music Hall 12 Nov: Glasgow, Broadcast 13 Nov: Liverpool, Shipping Forecast 14 Nov: Birmingham, The Bulls Head 15 Nov: Bristol, Start The Bus 17 Nov: Sheffield, Bungalows And Bears 18 Nov: Brighton, The Hope 19 Nov: London, The Lexington 21 Nov: Dublin, Workman's Club 22 Nov: Belfast, Voodoo Oh, and here's a new video for the song 'Lux', which is going to be on that album we were talking about. -------------------------------------------------- Chvrches confirm Oct/Nov dates The band with the most infuriating 'U-V-swap'-based name in the game, Scotland's own Chvrches, are touring quite soon, in October in fact. Taking place behind the trio's first and only LP, last year's very acclaimed (and still available to buy) 'The Bones Of What You Believe', the shows will go ahead as follows: 30 Oct: London, Brixton Academy 1 Nov: Liverpool, Camp And Furnace 3 Nov: Glasgow, Barrowlands 5 Nov: Edinburgh, Corn Exchange 6 Nov: Manchester, Academy |

Steve Aoki defends cake Steve Aoki has written an article for The Daily Beast defending the fact that when he DJs he sometimes leaves the decks to throw cake at people or sail atop the crowd in an inflatable dinghy. That's basically it. Except that he takes over 2500 words to say it. Actually, a large chunk of the article is taken up by dealing with the scourge of many a superstar DJ - allegations that he just plays mix CDs and doesn't do any DJing at all. Here's a little nugget: "I've never played a mix CD. So if I'm going to get in front of the DJ booth for an activity, that means that I have to sacrifice time working on the song as it's being played. It's a lot of stress to deal with when you have a song that might end if you don't get back in time. But that is my way of engaging with the crowd. Everyone has their own style and some DJs have mastered the art of using filters and EQs to help connect the audience with a song or a mood. That is their tool. This is mine". I think he's basically saying that he's doesn't think he's that great at DJing there, but what you should take away from it is that he is DJing nonetheless. And if people enjoy paying to see a man play some records and throw a bit of cake around, as they seem to in their thousands, how much does it really matter? Anyway, I think this article is supposed to promote the fact that Aoki has a new album coming out next month, though you have to read all 2500 odd words to get to that bit of information. It's quite a test of endurance for very little pay-off. Take the challenge here. |
