Quick Tip

Harry from Sacramento writes:

IE 11 has been hacked by istart123. When I try to delete IE, I get a message saying, setup cannot continue because a more recent version of IE is installed on your computer. Can you help?

Harry there's no need to delete Internet Explorer. In face removing it wouldn't do you any good, as the iStart123 program has been isntalled on your coputer. You haven't actually really been hacked. iStart123 is one of those programs that tags along on downloads. If you aren't too careful, you end up installing it on your computer without knowing.

Fortunately, it can be removed. Click this link for an article on removing the Eazel search page. You'll have to look for the name iStart instead of Eazel, but the process is exactly the same.

No Hard Drive Lives Forever...

Hard drives are sensitive, complex mechanical devices. Most modern hard drives can hit over 7200 RPMs!

But it's not without a cost: No matter HOW hard you try, 100% of hard drives will eventually crash.

AND THAT ALMOST ALWAYS SPELLS DISASTER!

What do you do when your hard drive crashes?

Well, there are only two outcomes...

1. If you don't back up your data:

It's gone. Throw your hard drive in the trash and start fresh... because you are NOT recovering that data. A dead hard drive is just that. It's game over.

2. If you DO back up your data:

You take your handy little Super Talent 16GB back up flash drive and put all your saved files on your next computer. With JUST ONE CLICK!

You don't lose a single file, and you don't spend the weekend wishing you had printed those vacation photos that you'll never get back.

Which one would you prefer?

There's only ONE reason not to back up data: it USED to be hard. It took a lot of time, it took expensive hardware or software, and it took some tech-savvy. You had to know file extensions, directories, the whole works.

NOT ANYMORE!

The Super Talent 16GB Instant Backup Flash Drive!

NO software. NO set up. NO time consuming steps. All you do is plug it in and click "backup"!

Could it BE any easier?

The first time you pop it in, it just asks you what directories you want to backup. After that, every new backup is just a click away.

What's great is that it keeps ALL of your directories and folders right in the order you have them on your PC. So you'll know EXACTLY where to find them on the flash drive or after you back them up to another PC!

AND USING IT IS AS EASY AS A CLICK! LOOK!

Think about everything you have on your computer: TONS of photos. ALL of your favorite music. Family videos and contact information.

How about work documents, important files, sensitive documents. Even your passwords, e-mails, favorite web pages... EVERYTHING!

After a crash, you can't get those photos back. The videos are now distant memories. And your passwords? Good luck remembering the ones you haven't had to type in for years.

BUT IF IT'S BACKED UP, YOU WON'T LOSE ANYTHING!

PERIOD!

And with backing up this easy, you won't even have to think about it!

This DEFINES User Friendly!

We tested it out, just check out the video:

Ultra Sleek, Ultra Secure, ULTRA FAST!

It looks, feels, and acts just like your standard flash drive (of course, standard flash drives can't hold a candle to this one) so you know it's gonna be easy and lightweight to move or store.

Plus, when you aren't using it, you can flip the drive around to protect the connector! YES!

That's right - Just drag and drop files to it and use it like any other flashdrive! Talk about the best of both worlds!!

Take it anywhere! Back up any PC or laptop! Use it for EVERYTHING!

And if you're looking for fast, this thing is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!

This is a Super Talent high-speed USB 2.0 drive.

We're talkin' up to 480Mbps of PURE SPEED!

Last but not least: IT'S SECURE!

When you back up anything on this drive, you can choose to encrypt it and guard it with a password of your choice! Nobody but you or those you trust get access to YOUR files.

So all your tax, financial, and confidential documents? You can back them up too without worrying! FINALLY!

It's not just passwords, either. It's full-power encryption!

All those passwords on your PC don't mean a thing if you don't have SECURE backups.

But with the included backup software, it's not a problem.

A Backup Drive For UNDER $10! WOW!

If you go anywhere to try and get a backup drive, you'll be looking $40 for the BARE MINIMUM! And those are bulky, heavy external hard drives that you really can't move or store.

Personal note - I needed another backup drive for all my photography, and these were just PERFECT for the job! They're sooooooo handy!

You will NOT find a faster, more convenient backup drive out there for just $9.97!

These are simply one of the coolest devices I've ever seen. PLEASE don't miss out on this deal. We only have so many and once they're gone... that's it.

http://store.worldstart.com/product/8733

LIMITED QUANTITY - Seriously! If these run out, they're gone! We don't always get to offer items like this! And after Wednesday this sale will end, with the price going back up to $22.97! HURRY TO THE STORE!

Why Microsoft Wants You To Uninstall Their Latest Updates

Microsoft has issued a warning for Windows users. If you've installed the most recent August updates, the company says you need to uninstall them. These updates applied to Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 .

Many users have reported problems restarting their systems after the update – some seeing the dreaded Windows' blue screen of death.

The updates with the problems are KB2982791, KB2970228, KB2975719 and KB2975331. When reports of the issues started rolling ins, Microsoft removed the link to the update and suggested that users uninstall the update. The company is working on a fix and plans to make it available as soon as the issues are resolved.

Here's how to find out if you have those updates installed on your computer:

Search for programs and features in your search box or search charm and click on the icon.

The Programs and Features window will open. Choose View installed updates.

You'll need to look for the most recent updates. Check for those numbers I mentioned above. Every computer may not have all of the updates.

Here I've selected the update that's considered to be the one most likely to cause the problem – KB2982791. Choose Uninstall.

It will take a few minutes for the update to uninstall.

You'll be given the options to restart now or later when it's finished. I'd suggest selecting later and going back and removing the other updates before you restart.

You could also choose to restore you system back to a point before the updates were downloaded.

Create A Golden Sunrise: Part 1

I'm going to turn a rather colorless city skyline into a bright orange morning sunrise scene by adding effects to show the sun gleaming off the buildings.

One of the most effective tricks in this tutorial is that of adjusting the Exposure to create a bright baseline on the horizon, as if the sunrise were just beginning.

Before and After

Here are the 'before and after' photos of the tutorial we are about to go through.

Tools Used

The primary tools used in this tutorial are:

  • Exposure Adjustment Layer
  • Layer Masks

The photo I will be using is this tutorial is located HERE. If you have a photo of your own you would like to use, that's fine too. For best results, try to choose a photo where the skyline starts (more or less) at the center of the photo.

Tutorial Tip – Introduction to Adjustment Layers

In the majority of my tutorials, I use Adjustment Layers to apply an effect to the image. Applying an Adjustment Layer is like adding another sheet of paper over the top of your image, which you can work with whilst keeping the original image beneath it.

When you create an Adjustment Layer, a Layer Mask is automatically created for your Adjustment Layer. The Layer Mask allows you to SUBTRACT or REMOVE the effect you apply on the Adjustment Layer and show the original image behind your Adjustment Layer.

For example, if I created an Adjustment Layer with a black and white image effect, I could paint on the Layer Mask using a solid Brush and the color image behind that Layer would show in the places where I paint.

I will discuss Layer Masks further in another tutorial, however if you would like to read more about them now, you can find information HERE.

One More Big Deal

90 dB is LOUD!

In fact, smoke detectors are generally about 100 dB! So you KNOW when this thing goes off, you'll be hearing it!

We all could use a little more home security, but who wants to pay out hundreds a year (plus installation fees!) for some overcomplicated mess?

These little door/window alarms are all you need!

See, they come with an alarm and a sensor.

You put the sensor on the frame, and the alarm on the door or window, with the opening in between!

I don't think it could get any simpler than that!

(Of course, you can turn it off with the simple switch whenever you want! So you don't have to hear it EVERY time that door or window opens, just when you know it shouldn't be!)

Don't think of this as just protection against intruders - these work GREAT for keeping tabs on any cabinets or interior doors too!

If you want to make sure a young child isn't getting into the cleaning products, or making sure you know when your business's delivery door is being opened, this is the best solution!

You won't find ANY security company that can compete with just $1.97 for an alarm that you can setup in seconds! It's just too good!
