All In The Family - Apple & Amazon To Allow Sharing

Tech giants Apple and Amazon have both announced plans to allow members of the same family to share digital media content. Amazon's plan is called the Family Library while Apple's is named Family Sharing.

With Kindle's Family Library two adults and up to four children can share e-books. Adults can control which books children can access. Famlies will also be able to share apps, audiobooks and programming from Amazon Prime Instant Video. Family Library will be available in October

Apple's Family Sharing is part of iOS 8 and allows families to share music, videos, books and apps and to also share photo albums in the iCloud as well as a family calendar.

And the price? How about just $2.97!

One of our suppliers gave us an absolutely mind-blowing deal on this 4GB Centon Snap DataStick!

But there's a catch -
The promotion is only for a limited time - Once our cost goes up, your cost will go up! If you want an amazing, 4GB flash drive for less than $3 , I'd high-tail it on over to the site as soon as you read this!! Get your orders in while you can!!

Think about this - this drive can hold the same amount of data as not 1, not 3, but 6 - count 'em 6 - CD-ROMS! It still amazes me you can get this much storage on something so small. I remember when 4 GB was considered to be a HUGE hard drive. Now it fits right in your pocket!

Heck, we're talking enough storage for thousands of images from your digital camera, 1000 MP3s, or 80,000 typical office documents! That's a lot of data!!

What can you do with a flash drive? What can't you do with a flash drive?

Back up your important documents, photos and videos.

Take your music library with you wherever you go. Up to 1,000 songs!

One of my favorite things to do is load up a drive with years of photos of videos and share them with family and friends. At this price, you can afford to make sure everyone has a copy of special events.

Another great trick is download a free office suite like LibreOffice or Open Office onto a flash drive. That's right, you can carry an entire office suite and thousands of documents with you wherever you go to use on any computer!

And with the included carabiner clip it's so easy to carry around or keep handy!

Hook this bad boy to your bag, bagpack, or even your belt loop!

You'll never lose it!

I don't know about you, but I can't live without my flash drives! But you probably already know how useful they can be.

What you need to concentrate on is the price: Only $2.97!

For that kind of money, you better grab a couple or a dozen! Click the store link below right now to add a few to your cart!

Please note - this was a special promotion from one of our suppliers and the price on these will increase on Friday !Grab yours ASAP - before the price goes back up to $4.97 !

Al from Ft.Collins, CO writes:

Thunderbird forced an update on me and I lost my File, Edit, Format, Tools and Help bar. Is there some way I can get back to the Thunderbird setup that I had???

In an effort to streamline the program and remove clutter in the menus, Mozilla decided to hide the main file menu bar by default in its latest edition of Thunderbird, and if you've installed an update lately that design change has now been forced on you whether you wanted it or not.

Although the menu options are hidden, they aren't gone for good. You can still access them by clicking the menu button (the icon of three flat horizontal black bars) in the upper-right corner of the screen, which will bring up all your standard menu features like "File" and so on.

Thunderbird Menu Button

If you don't want to go through at extra step though and would prefer to return to your previous way of accessing the menu, simply tap the "Alt" key at any time while Thunderbird is open. This keyboard shortcut forces the menu options back on the top of the screen, but this is a temporary solution, as the menus will be gone again the next time you open up Thunderbird.

To get the "File" menu back permanently where it used to be...

Cutting The Cord: Which Streaming Service To Choose

With many people choosing to cut the cord to cable and satellite television, more and more viewers are turning to streaming services

Streaming services offer viewing of various movies, television shows, and other miscellaneous content using media including game consoles, media players, mobile devices, computer, apps, channels, and set boxes. Initially viewed as additional viewing options to cable and satellite, many services have arrived on the media scene with comprehensive offerings for viewers. Currently the main three streaming media services are Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime.

Netflix has no advertising and has decent balance of television and film plus five profiles, separate kids section, and a great subtitle option.

Cost: $95.88 annually or $7.99 monthly (with unlimited physical DVD rentals (one-at-a-time) it's $191.76 annually)

Hulu Plus is ad-supported, but has an impressive television library especially British TV shows. Viewers also get brand new episodes of shows that are currently on the air plus great miscellaneous content like movie previews and video game previews/content...

Improve Windows 7 Taskbar Response

Windows 7 has taken the Aero interface to the next level and has pushed the hardware industry to deliver a certain standard, so that they can handle this new Windowing system from Microsoft. Aero was quite notorious in the days of Windows XP, and I remember many of my friends spoiling their computers in an attempt to try out the Aero interface with the Longhorn Transformation pack.

Things are different now, and we can run Windows Vista and Windows 7 with ease. Both of these operating systems have Aero as not just a visual feature, but have also brought some interesting usability with the Aero interface.

For users who prefer speed over visual appeal, sometimes Aero can still make the User Interface lag considerably. Most of the time, it is the system set delay in initializing Aero that gives it a particularly smooth effect. However, as most of us are interested in speed, and would never want to compromise it, we would like to speed-up the rendering of Aero controls that slow down our work.

Today, we will see how to speed up the thumbnails you see when hovering over the taskbar on an open application in Windows 7.

This guide is relatively simple and requires a few simple steps to modify the registry. If the CPU is the heart of the computer, the registry is the heart of the Windows operating system, and even a slight change in the registry is enough to block some arteries. So, make the changes wisely and exactly as this guide says. As a failsafe measure, backup your registry before we proceed. Instructions for that can be found here.

However, even before we proceed, let us see what Taskbar Previews are, and how the behave. Taskbar previews are thumbnail previews for applications residing on the taskbar. You can have a look at them here.

kanjilal_taskbar_preview_1

As you see, the application that shows the preview has a glow about itself in the taskbar and the thumbnail of the application shows the application name with a preview of the window. This is handy when you have multiple windows and do not want to switch to them to see their status or content.

However, the time these thumbnails take to come up is occasionally too long and makes things slow. This registry modification will show you how to change the response time of these thumbnails...

Four Free, Fun Android Games

If you are among the millions who recently purchased an Android tablet, I've got some suggestions for some fun, free games that you might enjoy. You can find these games in the Google Play store, which you can access by tapping the icon for the store on your tablet. It looks like this.

Now if your Android Tablet happened to be a Kindle, you'll want to look in the Amazon App Store.

First up on my list is Words With Friends. It's a Scrabble-like game that lets you play with friends or with random opponents. What I like best is that you play at your own pace with as many or as few friends as you choose. You can make a move once a day or sit down and play a whole game with a friend within an hour. My husband and I sometimes play a game sitting in the same room, but I also play with friends and relatives in other states, even other countries.

You can find friends to play with using Facebook and Twitter. The download is free, but you will see ads and they do try to sell you bonus items. If the ads bug you, you can pay to upgrade to the ad-free version for $2.99. But the good news is that you don't need the paid version or to buy "extras" to succeed at this game.

Another game I enjoy is...

Amanda's Coolsite

Big History Project

This is a really neat history site that takes a look a Big Picture History. What is Big Picture History? It is an interdisciplinary approach to looking at the past, exploring our present, and imagining the future to come. It looks at the overall scope of History, rather than honing in on just one time period.

I'd recommend starting with the video on the main page. It runs just over two and a half minutes, and walks you through what the course teaches. After that you can scroll down the page and check out the information provided there about the class. You could also click the Learn More link to the right of the video.

Or you can dive right in by clicking the Get Started button. You'll be whisked away to Chapter 1 – The Universe. I think the video in this chapter is an even better description of what the site is about. It also has neat feature called Chapter at a Glance that displays the amount of time the chapter takes, how many thresholds there are, how many videos are included, and how many galleries there are. After that you just scroll down the page to explore the content. You'll find videos, images, text, and quizzes. This section also provides instructions for how to access the material, what order to do it in, and what the thresholds are.

After that you'll work your way through the content in the manner that pleases you. I'm doing it consecutively, because I want the Big Picture in a chronological order. But you can hop around if you like. While you're exploring, you'll have the opportunity to earn badges, take quizzes, and eventually earn the title of Big Historian.

I found this site to be a very enjoyable way to learn about the History of the Universe and my role in it. Go check it out for yourself today!

One More Big Deal

Time to UPGRADE Your Lighter!

Did you know your current lighter is based on early 1900s technology?

They run out of fuel, have moving parts that break, and can wear your thumb out if the little sparker isn't working right.

Oh, and they are frustratingly HORRIBLE on windy days!

We have an amazing electronic lighter that works just like the one in your car - and can handle all your lighter needs!

No Flame, No Batteries, NO PROBLEMS!

No messy fluids, no trips to the store to buy more disposable lighters!

To use, just slide the safety cover down and press the button - instant heat, ready to light!

The USB plug and the heating coil of the lighter are both retractable, so it's not only easy to use, but it's SAFE too! No more burns from that hot metal hood of your old lighter after you've had the flame going too long!

And when you use it, you'll realize how much better it is not having to deal with that open flame!

Seriously, the very first time you use it on a really windy day, you'll laugh at all those memories of you bending over and shielding your old lighter, trying to keep that flame going for more than a second.

(Excuse me for the awful pun, but those other dime-a-dozen lighters just can't hold a candle to this one!)

Every time you have to replace or refill your cheap lighters, you blow cash. With this one? All you gotta do is plug it in to a USB port for a "refill" (charge).

It's not even a competition!

Especially when you see that these are only $8.97! That's a deal that'll have you sayin' "WOW!" all day!

PS - Hot deal. Hot item. LOW QUANTITIES! When these are gone, that's it! Please don't wait on this one, you WILL miss out!

Autumn Magic At Bond Falls

You know, I'm starting to really like Bond Falls. It's located – more or less – in the north central area of Michigan's UP, and let me tell ya – I've been there twice and pulled out a good shot each time! The first time was of the main falls, this time I went for the upper falls. In fact, back when I took the main falls I just -…(More)

Fall Cascades In The Smokies

Sometimes the good shots aren't where you think they are. It was autumn in the Smoky Mountains. If you've never been there in the fall, you can be forgiven for thinking it's a quiet, peaceful time of year when the tourists have flown home and you have the place to yourself. Nope, it's a zoo. I think fall is actually getting as busy as – or even busier than - ...(More)

Black Bear Stare Down

It was "Bear Week" in Yellowstone fall of 2007! Seems like everywhere I went, I ended up takin' snaps of bears. This guy was by far my favorite though. He was walking below the ridge line and we...(More)
