Is this possible? I'm not sure what you mean by "favorites menu," but there are a few things you can do to make 8.1 navigation similar to 7 that I covered in this article. I would also say that 8.1 has a better navigation that the Start Menu. If you're on the Metro/Modern tile screen you can just start typing the name of any program or file you want and it will pop up in search results. Or you can open the Search Charm, type the name and find it in seconds. The good news for those missing that Start Menu is that it is back in Windows 10. I've downloaded the technical preview and have been playing with it it for a week or so. Check this out – the Start Menu is back along with the convenience of Live Tiles. Some are speculating that Microsoft isn't even going to charge those using Windows 8 or 8.1 for the upgrade to 10. That's still just speculation. Samuel from NJ writes: Are you forced to buy new apps to work in win 8? Can you use your old apps as in Win XP? Well, Samuel that depends. It's possible that some of your older programs may work with Windows 8 or 8.1. A great place to check is the Windows Compatibility Center. You can enter the name of an app and find out if it works with the newer OS. I will also say that many of the apps you will want are included free on Windows 8.1 – Word processing in the form of WordPad, an e-mail client in the form of the Mail App, an image editor in the Photo App as well as in Paint. You'll also find a variety of free games in the Windows store. I think a lot of people forget that when XP came out, many of the programs that worked With Windows 3 and 95 no longer worked in XP. Skype Qik Sends Group Video Messages Quickly Microsoft has a new video messaging app for your phone called Skype Qik. This differs from Skype, which is intended for having extended video and voice calls. Skype Qik is made for sending quick video messages to others users of the app. There's a simplified system for sharing that allow you to immediately add videos to your chat with a single tap. Living In 3D - Blender - Part 2 In part 1 of this tutorial, I introduced you to a free 3D program called Blender that's comparable to many of the professional programs out there. We went over the basic controls and now we're ready to start a simple project. If you haven't read part one yet, click here to familiarize yourself with Blender. Let's place other solid objects now: a cone and a sphere. Go to "Mesh" submenu and choose "UV Sphere". Then do the same thing with "Cone" command. Have you noticed the colored arrows? This is usually called "gizmo." It shows you the direction on x, y and z axis. I can't see the sphere I added right now, because it was placed in the center of the scene, by default. Cords SUCK! Sorry to be blunt, but they do. They're a pain from start to finish! First you gotta crawl around to plug them in. Then you have to HOPE the cord is long enough to get where you need it. Not to mention it getting caught on EVERYTHING. And how about trying to replace that stuff, fishing out the cords all over again? So when they started announcing wireless this and wireless that... we ALL got excited! But all that happened was "cords" got replaced with... "receivers." Now instead of having cables all over, you have your USB ports clogged top to bottom and you're spendin' $50 to replace a little USB stick because if you lose it your keyboard or mouse just won't WORK! No cords, no receivers... just easy, simple, and oh so convenient? HERE IT IS! This. Blew. My. MIND! That means your USB ports stay open. Your computer area isn't adding another cord to that jungle that sticks out the back of it. BUT THAT'S ONLY A TINY FRACTION OF WHY THIS MOUSE IS SO AWESOME! First off - WiFi is WAY better than other options! That ALONE is going to change what you think about computer mice! But don't forget - this thing is a LASER mouse with 6 BUTTONS! If you don't know the difference between laser and optical (or ball mice, if you're still on one of those) then here's the short story: laser mice are WAY more accurate! If you've ever had to fight with a mouse to get your cursor where you want, using this mouse will feel SO refreshing! And 6 buttons gives you a LOT of power in one hand! Go forward or backward on webpages right with your mouse! You won't have to hunt for the back button at all - or you could make it do whatever you want! From changing the DPI, the sensitivity, or even changing what the extra buttons do! Awesome Touchscrolling Technology! Don't let this feature slip past ya! You know those scroll wheels that are basically standard on every mouse? If you use them a lot, you probably noticed they eventually start to fail. They stop "clicking", they get gunked up and barely move, or sometimes they just break entirely! You NEED your scroll wheel! It's so simple - just put your finger on the pad and slide it! It's like swiping on a touchscreen phone! For you, it's almost entirely the same motion... just easier, more natural, and with NO chance for getting gunked up! After all, the more moving parts on a device, the higher its risk for malfunction! If you use this once, you'll NEVER go back! It's that good!
