Windows 10 Revealed!

Microsoft has revealed its next operating system Windows 10. They're skipping right over number 9, but this new system could just as easily have been described as Windows 15, since it combines the best features of Windows 7 & 8. The beloved start menu is back, but the live tiles are sticking around.

Among the new features offered will be multiple desktops and a Continuum mode designed for convertible devices that will detect whether or not a mouse and keyboard are attached and switch back and forth between a keyboard-friendly and touch-friendly interface as needed.

We're getting our hands on a beta copy of Windows 10 right now and we're going to be testing it out to make sure we're ready to answer all of your questions when Windows 10 is released sometime in the middle of 2015.

Amazon Offers Kindle Just For Kids

Amazon is offering a special Kindle designed just for kids. The $149 tablet comes in a colorful kid-proof case to guard against drops and offers a free year of Amazon's FreeTime unlimited service that offers books, movies, TV shows, educational apps and games just for kids.

Parental controls also allow parents to set specific amounts of time spent on activities such as reading, watching videos and playing games.

Apple Does Damage Control

The hype following the launch of the iPhone 6, Apple Watch and iOS 8 was followed by a whole lot of problems for the company. There were complaints of slowdowns and poor battery life with iOS 8. Even worse, the first update to the system, iOS 8.0.1 left some users unable to make calls with their phones and broke Apple's much-touted fingerprint ID system which locked people out of their phones.

The company issued a new update iOS.0.2 to fix the problem just over a day later. There have also been reports of the new iPhone 6 bending in the pockets of users. Angry owners posted photos on social media of their warped phones. The company says the problem is not wide-spread and offered to replace the phones that warped.

With this, NOWHERE is out of range!

You finally got your WiFi all setup. So you run to your laptop, hop in your favorite chair, get extra comfortable, and go to connect.

"No networks found!"

What? You JUST tested it! So you get up, and walk over to the router... uh oh. Your laptop can only pick it up from literally just a few feet away!

You don't want move EVERYTHING to fix a weak connection, do you?!

How about travel? That's why you got a laptop in the first place! Then you spent the extra time finding that hotel or coffee shop with "FREE WIFI!"

Great, right? Except its not. Because you got stuck in the room that can TECHNICALLY locate the WiFi... but it won't connect. You see it staring right at you on your screen but you can't even use it!

You're JUUUUUUUUUUUST out of range.

And the coffee shop is no different, unless you're sitting in just the right seat, you get NOTHING! Why'd you even BOTHER trying wireless, right?

ALL YOU NEED IS MORE RANGE!

If you think you can get this kinda power without this adapter, you're NUTS!

Most connections can barely make it 20 feet! And when you throw a wall or two into the mix... you're talking even less!

And even if you DO connect... your current adapter is probably 54MBps.

That's almost a QUARTER of the maximum possible speeds that this one can achieve!

This can detect up to just short of an ENTIRE mile away! I've NEVER seen so much power in such a little adapter!

It's as simple as it seems: your laptop or computer don't have big, powerful antennas.

This does.

In fact... it has TWO of them! And they're not just ordinary run of the mill antennas either, they're high gain!

It's so easy to use, too!

Just plug it into any available USB port! That's really all there is to it!

Oh, and if you think two antennas is all this bad boy is packing, you're WRONG!

It uses MIMO technology! Think of it like the network version of a brand new turbo engine in your car!

See, MIMO uses both antennas at once to split the workload! Without getting into all the big words and technical stuff, MIMO = more data can get through at higher speeds.

And I NEVER forget security!

Look at this, you get EVERYTHING to make sure your wireless is encrypted!

WPA
WPA-PSK
WPA2
WPA2
WPA2-PSK
WEP (64/128/256-bit)
TKIP/AES

With this adapter, you never have to worry about prying eyes!

That's a LOT of security built right in! You don't have to think about it for a second!

I've seen similar devices like this go for nearly $50!

And THOSE ones are big radar-dish lookin' things that you DEFINITELY can't bring along with you!

This one is small enough for travel, perfect for home, and IT'S ONLY $24.97 with FREE US SHIPPING!

Talk about a perfect solution to one of the MOST common complaints with Internet!

Rosie writes:

I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to start an email to send in the 8.1, Mail App. Any help? I do like the double screen to see the emails that i have downloaded from my on line email client. But was wondering if i go to outlook.com and get an account can i then download it and have my Outlook back?

It's super-simple to compose a new e-mail. Just click the + button in the upper-right of your inbox.

A new e-mail will be created.

You can just start typing your message.

If you want to add an attachment, choose the paperclip icon.

When you are ready to send, click the envelope icon.

If you go to Outlook.com and start an account, there won't be any program to download to your computer. Outlook.com is an e-mail service, not a program that you download to your computer. The interface is very similar to that of the Mail App on you computer. But it does have a few more features, so if you'd like to start an Outlook.com account and check it out, go right ahead.

If you want the Outlook e-mail client for your computer, you can purchase it from Microsoft or another retailer and install it, but it will cost you close to $100.

The Mail App should be enough for your everyday e-mail needs, once you become comfortable with it.

On The Move

Corbin writes:

I see power cords and chargers and cables advertised at great prices and they'll say that they work with tablets and phones, but then they don't work with my iPad or my iPhone. Why is so hard to get a good deal on a cord and how can I tell if one will work with my phone and tablet?

Corbin, most Android and Windows tablets and phones these days use what's called a micro-USB connection. Ysou'll also find the micro- USB port on some cameras and MP3 players. The most common cord you'll see is one with a USB to micro-USB connection.

This would allow you to plug you device into a computer to transfer files and charge. You can also plug this cord into a USB wall charger like the one below.

Or a USB car charger like this one.

You'll also see many car charger available with...

ylvia from New York, NY writes "I wanted to get rid of an old Dell computer with Windows XP, but not with the hard drive in it. I was able to remove the hard drive and put it in the sink with hot water for abt 20 minutes. Then with a screw driver I pulled it apart and let the water run inside. I then put it in a plastic bag and tied it up tight and threw it in a basket on the street. Do you agree that I got rid of what was on my hard drive?"

Hi, Sylvia. Thanks for the great question.

I think that you forgot running a jackhammer on it, giving it to a rabid pit bull and dropping a hydrogen bomb on it.

All kidding aside, no, I don't think that you destroyed the data on the plates.

The plates are designed to be tough and to survive a fair amount of abuse. Simply disassembling it and giving it a bath is probably not enough. I've actually seen data retrieved from hard drives that have been subjected to much harder abuse than that, such as being beaten with a hammer. That's the bad news.

The good news is that you really don't have to resort to such extreme measures to eliminate the data on an old hard drive. When you delete something from a hard drive, it's not really gone until you write over it. Your computer simply marks it as data that CAN be overwritten.

Here's how to really wipe your drive...

Recalls Look-up By VIN

We just got a recall notice on our Fiesta for just a minor defect, and it got me thinking that there must be somewhere that you can just check for recall information on your own. It turns out there is!

You can look up recalls by using your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Just find the VIN on your vehicle and then type it into the search field on the site. After that you'll need to fill out the CAPTCHA and click the orange Submit button.

Just below the area where you put in the information into the search field is a text box that details what the search does and does not cover.

On the left side of the page, you'll find a handy side menu. You can check those categories out for yourself, but I wanted to draw your attention to the Recalls FAQ. It's a downloadable .PDF that goes over what a recall is, where you can find your VIN on your vehicle, and other helpful tips.

Go check whether your car has any recalls today!

One More Big Deal

No Hard Drive Lives Forever...

Hard drives are sensitive, complex mechanical devices. Most modern hard drives can hit over 7200 RPMs!

But it's not without a cost: No matter HOW hard you try, 100% of hard drives will eventually crash.

AND THAT ALMOST ALWAYS SPELLS DISASTER!

What do you do when your hard drive crashes?

Well, there are only two outcomes...

It's gone. Throw your hard drive in the trash and start fresh... because you are NOT recovering that data. A dead hard drive is just that. It's game over.

You take your handy little SanDisk 16GB back up flash drive and put all your saved files on your next computer. With the push of a button!

You don't lose a single file, and you don't spend the weekend wishing you had printed those vacation photos that you'll never get back.

Which one would you prefer?

There's only ONE reason not to back up data: it USED to be hard. It took a lot of time, it took expensive hardware or software, and it took some tech-savvy. You had to know file extensions, directories, the whole works.

NOT ANYMORE! IT JUST GOT AS EASY AS PUSHING ONE BUTTON!

The SanDisk 16GB Instant Backup Flash Drive!

NO software. NO set up. NO time consuming steps. All you do is plug it in and press the button!

Could it BE any easier?

The first time you pop it in, it just asks you what directories you want to backup. After that, every new backup is just a button away.

So you'll know EXACTLY where to find them on the flash drive or after you back them up to another PC!

Think about everything you have on your computer: TONS of photos. ALL of your favorite music. Family videos and contact information.

How about work documents, important files, sensitive documents. Even your passwords, e-mails, favorite web pages... EVERYTHING!

After a crash, you can't get those photos back. The videos are now distant memories. And your passwords? Good luck remembering the ones you haven't had to type in for years.

And with backing up this easy, you won't even have to think about it!

This DEFINES User Friendly!

We tested it out, just check out the video of the identical, but smaller 16GB version:

Ultra Sleek, Ultra Secure, ULTRA FAST!

It looks, feels, and acts just like your standard flash drive (of course, standard flash drives can't hold a candle to this one) so you know it's gonna be easy and lightweight to move or store.

Plus, it has a retractable connector so you ALSO know it's gonna stay safe from any potential accidents!

That's right - Just drag and drop files to it and use it like any other flashdrive! Talk about the best of both worlds!!

Take it anywhere! Back up any PC or laptop! Use it for EVERYTHING!

And if you're looking for fast, this thing is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!

This flash drive is part of the SanDisk "Ultra" series, their fastest USB 2.0 drives out there.

Last but not least: IT'S SECURE!

When you back up anything on this drive, you can choose to encrypt it and guard it with a password of your choice! Nobody but you or those you trust get access to YOUR files.

So all your tax, financial, and confidential documents? You can back them up too without worrying! FINALLY!

All those passwords on your PC don't mean a thing if you don't have SECURE backups.

But with this SanDisk, it's not a problem.

A Backup Drive For UNDER $25! WOW!

If you go anywhere to try and get a backup drive, you'll be looking $40 for the BARE MINIMUM! And those are bulky, heavy external hard drives that you really can't move or store.

And as a personal note, I kept two of these once we got 'em and I've got my home and work PC backed up on these flash drives. I love them already. They're that good!

You will NOT find a faster, more convenient backup drive out there for just $24.97!

These are simply one of the coolest devices I've ever seen. PLEASE don't miss out on this deal. We only have so many and once they're gone... that's it.

http://store.worldstart.com/product/9976

LIMITED QUANTITY - Again, we can't get any more than the ones we have! And after Monday this sale will end, with the price going back up to $27.97! HURRY TO THE STORE!

Autumn Magic At Bond Falls

You know, I'm starting to really like Bond Falls. It's located – more or less – in the north central area of Michigan's UP, and let me tell ya – I've been there twice and pulled out a good shot each time! The first time was of the main falls, this time I went for the upper falls. In fact, back when I took the main falls I just -…(More)

Fall Cascades In The Smokies

Sometimes the good shots aren't where you think they are. It was autumn in the Smoky Mountains. If you've never been there in the fall, you can be forgiven for thinking it's a quiet, peaceful time of year when the tourists have flown home and you have the place to yourself. Nope, it's a zoo. I think fall is actually getting as busy as – or even busier than - ...(More)
