Yet belief is likely a dynamic element of your life rather than a stagnant one, and the ideals you embrace today may not be those you will embrace tomorrow. If you endeavor to remain tolerant of ethical, cultural, and philosophical differences, you may find you can discuss these charged topics with loved ones, colleagues, and peers without becoming embroiled in conflict.

When we endeavor always to be the voice of tolerance, we can prevent many disagreements that might otherwise have escalated into full blown arguments. Ideological differences between individuals cannot typically be solved by compromise because neither side is willing to concede. Acting as an advocate for tolerance allows us to remind individuals involved in such confrontations that there is nothing inherently wrong with agreeing to disagree. We may find that others reject our counsel at first because strong emotional reactions are fueling their passion. Yet as they come to see that stubbornness will accomplish little, it is likely that they will accept the value of integrating a "live and let live" philosophy into their system of beliefs.
