Quick Tip

Torrence from Boardman, OH writes:

I am still using XP and will continue to use it even though Microsoft bailed out. They just keep upgrading to make more MONEY. I can do everything I want to with my XP. I have two computers with XP with all of the items I want, OR I know where to get what I want. I will get rid of whatever they have on a new computer and transfer my XP from the old one to the new with PCmover. have already done this with 2 different computers. ALL the new Microsoft upgrades i HATE. I bought a new computer for my wife and it has VISTA. What a piece of JUNK! It doesn't compare with XP to the minutest degree.

To be fair, Vista came out 8 years ago and Windows 7 and 8.1 are far more stable operating systems. But I understand that you love your XP and I don't mind if you keep it and move it on to new computers. But you should not go online with XP. It isn't safe and you could end up having important information compromised or losing that wonderful set-up where you have everything organized the way you want it. Here's an article with some suggestions for staying safer with XP.

You Know How it Goes...

You're on the road. You're at work. You're at a hotel. It doesn't matter where you are, you're NOWHERE near a USB port!

That important call you were either expecting, or were supposed to make?

Well... good luck with that! Hopefully it wasn't too important, because you're gonna have to wait 'til you get home and get that phone charged now!

It feels like your phone is waiting until the worst possible moment to die! EVERY TIME!

Don't put up with it anymore!

This incredible Rechargeable USB Charger has gotta be the most useful device invented in the last decade! Someone definitely had their creativity on overdrive when this incredible idea popped into their brain!

All you do is plug it into your device with the USB cable you always use and it'll charge your device directly! The indicator light lets you know it's charging and you can go back to having a phone that's actually USABLE!

It's small enough to fit in any pocket, any purse, luggage, your glovebox - literally anywhere!

When you're at home, just power this up with a USB port and then keep it with you on the go! No matter where you end up, you'll know you have a couple extra hours worth of charge JUST IN CASE!

If you don't need it right away, you can keep it "at-the-ready" for a LONG time!

So, the next time your cell phone, MP3 player, etc goes dead - you'll know EXACTLY where to find a charge!

As soon as I saw this thing - I knew I just had to have one!

Quick Fun Fact: Almost EVERY portable device used nowadays charges via USB. This device is basically a USB port that fits in your pocket.

So ANYTHING you'd charge at your computer can charge on this!

Your cost today is just $9.97!!

That's an unheard of price for a device like this! Grab one while you can!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/9857

PS - Be sure to order yours today, because this is an EXTREMELY limited quantity item and the price is headed up to $14.97 Wednesday Once these are gone, it doesn't look like they'll be available ever again!

On The Move

Hy from CO writes:

Will 3-D printing, become a common household commodity like the computer?

Not too long ago the concept of 3D printing seemed more science fiction than fact (with images of Captain Picard commanding "earl gray tea, hot!" to the wall computer on the Enterprise), but now just a few short years later 3D printing is increasingly being used by businesses and government agencies, with common home use not too far down the road.

The technique managed to make headlines recently when NASA "emailed" a wrench to the International Space Station by sending the astronauts in orbit a schematic to 3D print the tool. By printing a wrench on-site, a necessary tool was created immediately, rather than having to wait for a shuttle to arrive with supplies.

Space is a long way from home though, so what's available for the average Earth-bound techie? As of this writing, the Makerbot Replicator – meant for both home and office use – will run you a cool $2,899. That's a large investment to be sure, but its also on par with the cost of home computers and flat screen televisions before their prices began to drop and become more accessible. A mini compact version for very small jobs is also available for $1,375, with other companies selling them as cheaply as $500. The printer itself isn't the only cost, however, as you've got to buy (or make your own) designs for objects, and you have to buy the filament used for the printing.

3D printers in the home have the potential to be the next truly big technological revolution on par with the home computer and the world wide web. Much like how the uses of a home computer weren't immediately apparent back in the '80s and early '90s, now they are indispensable, and it's easy to think one day kids won't know what it was like to grow up without a home printer, just as children today can't recall a time without computers and cell phones.

The big question for the home consumer is of course: what would you even make with one? The answer is...

From The Archives

Bonnie from AR writes:

"How do you save an image to the cache? My pc tells me that in order to create an image to a cd is to save it to the cache. Thanks for your great newsletters."

Hi, Bonnie. Thanks for the great question!

Trust me, this is relevant. I grew up in Alaska, and one of the things that we learned in school (believe it or not) was how to protect ourselves and our stuff from bears. I won't get into anything that we were taught except for one: the cache. It was difficult to keep food in a land-based storage space because bears would either get into it or try. And a lot of the cabins up there are not very large, and the grocery store, instead of being on the corner was an hour-ride airplane ride away, so you had to stock up, especially for winter. So what you would do is build a cache to store your excess food.

This is how a cache looks when the owner isn't getting into it. The ladder is stored around the house to keep a bear from climbing it.

The computer cache works in a very similar way. One form of cache is...

Today's Feature

Clean Your Camera Phone Lens!

Are your camera phone photos starting to look a little blurry and not-so-nice? How is anyone going to appreciate your kitty's cuteness when they can't see Fluffy clearly?

Take a good look at your phone. It might be because you need to clean your lens. Because of the time phones spend in pockets and purses, they tend to collect lint and dust. And for some reason, whenever your hands are sticky, your fingers seem drawn to the lens on your camera phone.

Over time, your lens picks up residue and your photo quality starts to suffer. Fortunately, it's easy to clean the lens.

You can buy lens cleaning cloths at many stores. Keep a packet on hand and remember to wipe off your lens occasionally. If it's really gunky, you can clean with distilled water and a Q-tip.

Make sure you use distilled water. The impurities found in some tap water could leave residue on your lens. It's not expensive, you can probably pick up a gallon for around a dollar. Now take...

Today I'm bringing you directly to the About page for the site we'll be visiting, because the main page just dives right into their tool. To learn more about Canva scroll down the page. You'll learn how you can use this simple new way to design all sorts of content like blog graphics, presentations, Facebook covers, flyers, posters, invitations, and more!

I love it because it's free and easy to use with an intuitive drag and drop system. When you're ready to give it a try, click the green Start Designing button. It will ask you to sign up, and you can do so using either F-connect with Facebook or by using your e-mail address and creating a password. I, of course, used Facebook as always.

Once you've signed up the site provides you with a 23 second guide to using Canva. Click the Show Me How It's Done button to get started. Once you've watched the guide, you'll be instructed to start your first challenge. This interactive challenge will reinforce how to use the different design components on the site. Once you've completed it you can begin your own design.

I've been using it to design banners, Facebook covers, and such for my knitwear designs brand that I'm getting off the ground this year. I love that it's fast and easy to use, and that everything is clearly labeled as to whether it is free or not. (You can purchase stock photos and such to make your designs come to life!)

One More Big Deal

Cords SUCK!

Sorry to be blunt, but they do. They're a pain from start to finish!

First you gotta crawl around to plug them in. Then you have to HOPE the cord is long enough to get where you need it. Not to mention it getting caught on EVERYTHING. And how about trying to replace that stuff, fishing out the cords all over again?

So when they started announcing wireless this and wireless that... we ALL got excited!

But all that happened was "cords" got replaced with... "receivers."

Now instead of having cables all over, you have your USB ports clogged top to bottom and you're spendin' $50 to replace a little USB stick because if you lose it your keyboard or mouse just won't WORK!

No cords, no receivers... just easy, simple, and oh so convenient?

HERE IT IS!

This. Blew. My. MIND!

That means your USB ports stay open. Your computer area isn't adding another cord to that jungle that sticks out the back of it.

BUT THAT'S ONLY A TINY FRACTION OF WHY THIS MOUSE IS SO AWESOME!

First off - WiFi is WAY better than other options!

That ALONE is going to change what you think about computer mice!

But don't forget - this thing is a LASER mouse with 6 BUTTONS!

If you don't know the difference between laser and optical (or ball mice, if you're still on one of those) then here's the short story: laser mice are WAY more accurate!

If you've ever had to fight with a mouse to get your cursor where you want, using this mouse will feel SO refreshing!

And 6 buttons gives you a LOT of power in one hand!

Go forward or backward on webpages right with your mouse! You won't have to hunt for the back button at all - or you could make it do whatever you want!

From changing the DPI, the sensitivity, or even changing what the extra buttons do!

Awesome Touchscrolling Technology!

Don't let this feature slip past ya! You know those scroll wheels that are basically standard on every mouse? If you use them a lot, you probably noticed they eventually start to fail.

They stop "clicking", they get gunked up and barely move, or sometimes they just break entirely!

You NEED your scroll wheel!

It's so simple - just put your finger on the pad and slide it! It's like swiping on a touchscreen phone!

For you, it's almost entirely the same motion... just easier, more natural, and with NO chance for getting gunked up! After all, the more moving parts on a device, the higher its risk for malfunction!

If you use this once, you'll NEVER go back! It's that good!

You can even tap right at the top of the scroll pad to "click" it like a middle-mouse button!

"And Now For The Main Event..."

This mouse isn't just comparable to the $100 you see at the big box stores... it's BETTER! It's a laser mouse, it's got that INCREDIBLE WiFi connectivity, and the touchpad scrolling is going to save you TONS of trouble!

And that's why OTHER places are getting away with trying to sell this for BIG BUCKS! Take a look:

But, you guessed it, I'm showing them how it's done!

You can get this unbelievable WiFi mouse for JUST $19.97 with FREE US SHIPPING!

That's over HALF the price off. And it's brand new, no refurbs!

It's like Christmas came early!

WARNING: LOW QUANTITIES! This is a ONE TIME deal. I have one order of these, and then they will be GONE! If you want one, or think you want one, you need to order it quick!

Watchful Winter Deer

The forecast was calling for an early season snow and with the temps hovering around freezing, I knew the snow was going to stick to everything in sight. Seemed like a good reason to get out to my local park! Now, I'm the first to admit the deer are fairly tame in this area and with the large number roaming the park, I knew it wasn't going to be too terribly difficult to locate a subject or two. Sure enough…(More)

Hovering Egret

It was getting towards the end of my morning shoot and my stomach was on a mission to find some breakfast. There wasn't too much going on and I knew the light was less than a half an hour from turning too harsh to work with anyway. I was about to pick up my camera and search for a way to satiate my grumbling stomach when...(More)

Hocking Hills Cascading Stream

This was taken one misty morning in Hocking Hills State Park. We were hiking through the Old Man's Cave area and couldn't help but notice the creek that flowed through the gorge looked especially spectacular this particular AM. So, I scampered over some rocks and down to the best part of the cascades. Had to be careful with this one. I was shooting just upstream from a waterfall and...(More)
