INJUNS, HERE DAY COME!
SUPER SUNDAY 2015
BRINGS OUT THE INDIANS

Mardi Gras Indians will come out in force this weekend for Super Sunday 2015. Every year on the Sunday before St. Joseph's Day, the Indians take to the streets for a lively and only in New Orleans celebration of life and Indian culture. You won't want to miss a single feather. Check out our Super Sunday playlist to get you pumped for the big day.

The NOLA Stones Fest returns to Tipitina's tomorrow night. Last year, a heavy thunderstorm "blew a 50 amp fuse," but the band didn't miss a beat. There's no telling what will happen this year.

MORE NEWS:

Ivan Neville of Dumpstaphunk and Cris Jacobs of The Bridge have launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund their new joint project, Neville Jacobs.

New Orleans musicians will come together to pay tribute to Joe Cocker on March 27 at One Eyed Jacks.

The Jazz in the Park lineup has been released! Get ready for some great music in Armstrong Park!

DO YOU BUKU?

The fourth annual BUKU Music + Art Project returns on Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14.

MORE NEWS:

We've got a great video of the Soul Rebels with Pharoahe Monch at the Brooklyn Bowl.

Roselyn Lionhart is being honored this Saturday by the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame for her work as a civil rights activist.

And don't forget about the St. Patrick's Day parades this weekend!

MORE OR LESS

TOURISTS?

Met with two old friends lastweek for lunch and we talked about how many tourists we see on the streets these days...almost as many as before Hurricane Katrina.

But do we need to keep bringing people to the city who are not necessarily the best "type" of visitor?

Should we be concentrating on quality rather than quantity?

OffBeat wants to create a new OffBeat t-shirt, and we need your input.

MUSICAL HISTORY LESSON
SEVEN YEARS AGO IN OFFBEAT...
In March 2008, trumpeter/impresario
Irvin Mayfield was reportedly considering a run for Mayor of New Orleans. John Swenson wrote this piece on Irvin Mayfield, his ambition and his plans.
He may not be mayor (yet) but Mayfield is still moving and shaking with the opening of the New Orleans Jazz Market and the publishing of a brand-new coffee table book with a 7-CD accompanying music set from Basin Street Records, out at the end of this month.

Here's a clip of Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra performing a Queen song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Mayfield and NOJO will cover Queen tunes at this year's French Quarter Fest.
