Apple Wants To Help You Make The Move From Android

In iOS 9, Apple is adding a feature to help make it easier for Android users to make the switch to an iPhone. Users will be able to download the Move to iOS app from the Google Play Store and wirelessly transfer their data from their old Android to their new iPhone.

Contacts, messages, photos, videos, mail, calendars , wallpapers and DRM-free music and books can also be transferred. The app even compares your current Android apps to iPhone apps. The free apps are automatically downloaded, while the paid apps are added to your wish list in iTunes.

Can I Switch Back From Windows 10?

I got an interesting question from Joan about the free upgrade to Windows 10. She's not the first person to ask this question. "Windows 10 has been available for my computer for 4 days now. I'd love to try it, but I'm afraid it might be difficult to use. If I find that I'm having too many problems, will I be able to switch back? I'm on Windows 7 now."

Windows10start1

First of all, Joan, if you are using Windows 7, I think you'll find Windows 10 to be pretty easy to understand and use. I'd suggest clicking that little windows icon in the corner of your screen to reserve your upgrade and then running the compatibility checker to see how well Windows 10 will get along with the programs and devices you currently use on your computer. You can find instructions for that by clicking here.

That might go a long way toward letting you know about potential problems.

Now as far as rolling back to a previous version of Windows. In the technical preview of Windows 10, rollback is there as an option. It's unlikely that will be found in the final version. The idea is to get everyone on the same page running the same operating system, much like Apple does with OS X and iOS. It's easier to troubleshoot, easier to secure operating systems, and easier for developers of programs and apps.

Windows 8.1 computers create a restoration partition, so it might be fairly easy to do on that system. For Windows 7, I'm afraid you'd have to just reinstall your Windows 7 operating system. In either case, you should have all of your important files backed up anyway on an external drive or in the cloud or even better, a disk image backup.

Going into using a new OS thinking about reverting to the previous one is a lot like getting married thinking you can always just get a divorce. It tends not make you put your whole heart into it. So maybe it's not a bad idea that there's some effort involved in giving up on a new OS.

From The Archives

Leslie Burton from Ny writes:

"I went to backup my computer on the hard drive. It wasn't enough space to do the backup. How can I get back that space that was use on the backup? My computer OS is 7 64bit. Is there an easy way to retrieve that space back to where it was? Thank You"

Hi, Leslie. Thanks for the great question!

You didn't say, but I'm guessing that you're backing up to an external hard drive? The first thing that you want to do is to make sure that your external drive is at least as large as the drive that you're backing up to it. So, for instance, if you have a 500 GB hard drive in your machine, then you want an external hard drive that is 500 GB or larger. I know that this sounds elementary, but what's possible is that your external hard drive is smaller than your internal hard drive, but up until now, there has been little enough information on your internal drive that you haven't filled it up yet. Here's how you check the size of these drives. Plug your external hard drive into your machine, and then do this: first click START and then COMPUTER.

Take a look at the drives listed on your computer and it will show you how much space is available on each drive, as well as how much data is used.

Secrets To Photographing Waterfalls

t's 5:00AM and my obnoxious alarm shatters the silence, bringing an abrupt end to my slumber and jarring me out of bed. As my synapses slowly start to fire, I notice the pitter-patter of raindrops as they dance upon the top of my camper.

A grin starts to draw across my face, but not because I think I'm going back to bed. See, I'm out for waterfalls and conditions are about as ideal as they can get.

Let's face it – if you're a landscape photographer, waterfalls tend to be on the menu. After all, they can be found in just about any region, with even the driest places occasionally receiving a transitory flow now and then. However, getting a wall hanger isn't as simple as it seems.

The biggest challenge with waterfalls is that, when you're standing face to face with them, they seem deceptively easy to photograph. It's only upon returning home and facing some disappointing files on your computer do you realize maybe transforming that liquid beauty into a unique photo was tougher than you thought.

The truth is capturing a stunner takes an intelligent mix of planning, effort, and persistence. Let's examine eight essential tips for capturing better waterfall photos...

Amanda's Coolsite

By Wilma

I found this site while looking for a few easy DIY projects that I could do to get out of a creative rut. I'm in the middle of designing my first sweater, and the math was not working out, so I decided to stop and look for a project to do that would "cleanse my creative palette", so to speak.

In my search I found By Wilma, which not only offers awesome DIY projects, but also shares recipes and inspiration as well. I tried the DIY – Map Wallet as a potential gift for a map loving friend, and the DIY – 'Love' Wire Necklace for myself. The instructions are clear, concise, and easy to follow. The recipe sections offers a nice selection of tasty treats including an ice cream cake that is is easy to make and might help cool you off on a hot summer day.

Navigation is setup blog style, in reverse chronological order, so the newest posts are at the top, but By Wilma also offers a handy navigation bar at the top of the page that lets you browse by category. The categories are – Home, DIY Gallery, Recipe Gallery, and About.

Home will bring you back to the main page from any of the other sections of the page. Each category is filled with projects or recipes and the About section fills you in on the site's author and how the site came about.

I have bookmarked this site and check in on it several times a week to see what's new; I'm hoping you will too! Check it out today!

Egret Enjoying Sunset (ideal for smart phones)

This photo was captured in Ritch Grissom Wetlands on a sunny evening in FL. There were dozens of egrets flying in and out as the sun fell towards the horizon.
