Keith's Song of the Week : "Backstep Blues" by Tellico Album: Relics and Rose Based in Asheville, NC, Tellico continues the careers of three previous members of the now-disbanded Dehlia Low group. (One of Dehlia's Lows albums was called Tellico.) The band's signature is strong contemporary bluegrass and Americana songs highlighted by singer and fiddle player Anya Hinkle's distinctive voice. "Come on a down the back road, when you turn around he’s headed for the door ." The song exploits a rhythmic element of old-time music, the "backstep" as a metaphor for a fading love where a beloved is left with a "backstep blues" after separation. Played by: Keith Weston |
