Is Pandora's Box Coming Back In Windows 10?

Yvonne had a question about Windows 10. She writes: "On the all apps list is Games and under that is Pandora's Box. That is my all time favorite computer game. I think one of the best made for adults and children as well. My old version will not work on more recent versions of Windows and I was so happy to see it back. But nothing happens when I click on it. Is it there or not? Is it coming later? Why would MS let such a good wholesome, challenging game go?"

Yvonne – no games are included as part of Windows 10. It's likely that what you're seeing are some games that were installed on your PC before you upgraded to Windows 10. Probably back when you discovered Pandora's Box didn't work with Windows 7. I'd go ahead and uninstall the program.

Microsoft features a variety of puzzle games similar to Pandora's Box in the Windows store, many of them are free.

Click the Windows store icon.

Then choose the games category and refine by puzzle.

You'll find a wide choice of free puzzle games to try out.

Announcements

I get so many robo-calls and telemarketing calls a day that if I had a penny for every call I'd be RICH! So I decided to stop answering the phone, and let the machine pick it up. But then I was missing very important calls. Like my daughter being sick at school, or my mom being in a car accident. (She was okay thank goodness, but it could have been a big deal.) And most of the time my family and friends will just hang up as soon as they hear the machine answer.

So I decided it was time to find something to help me!

And I found THIS!

This is the perfect solution for knowing when to pick up the phone and when to let my answering machine do the dirty work.

This baby has everything I need in the terms of caller ID! Because it will…

Yeah! It will tell you OUT LOUD who is calling, and if it doesn't know the name, then this bad boy will say OUT LOUD the phone number!

With the volume button you can easily control how loud you want it to be!

At first when I got this, I thought… OK, time to pull out my tech hat and get ready to work! But that was all wrong! All you need to do it plug one end in your phone outlet and the other in your phone – IT TAKES CARE OF THE REST!

Some people might have to call their phone company to add caller ID to their line, but thank goodness mine was already included.

So think of it this way! Remember your awesome family dinners without interruptions??? Imagine having that back! No more getting up to look to see if it's someone that you need to talk to. All you have to do is sit at the table and just listen for the caller ID box to literally tell you who it is!

You'll love the fact that you never have to talk to a telemarketer again! And Think about it... An election year is coming! How many thousands of call from politicians will be headed straight to your house?

I've seen this guy go for WELL OVER $30!!! ------ THAT'S INSANE!

But not here at WorldStart! We've got them for just $8.97!!! Your time is precious, stop wasting it!

Computers 101

Restore Your Custom-Built PC

Al from Jackson, NJ writes "When you buy a new laptop you are able to make DVD's to restore to factory condition. If I build my PC or have and older laptop. Can I, if so How is that done?"

Hi, Al. Thanks for the great question!

Most modern computers, instead of having you create restore discs, although that's still an option, will give you a recovery partition instead. Like this:

1

As far as creating recovery DVD's for your old laptop goes, that will depend on whether or not the manufacturer offered that option. Some do, some don't. I once had an HP computer that came with recovery discs, and a slot in the machine to hold them.

With your hand-made computer, there is no "factory" image to reload your computer to, since your machine wasn't made in a factory. Basically, once you make the machine, you'll basically just load all of your software from discs that you have.

Now, the good news is that, once you create your machine, you can create your very own system image disc, which is the same thing. It will allow you to restore your computer to its previous version. The even better news is that the restore option has remained the same since Windows 7.

The easiest way to find this in Windows 7 and 8 is to go to the start menu and enter BACKUP in the search box. In windows 10, you will go to the start menu and click SETTINGS and then enter BACKUP in the search box.

2

This will open your backup window, which looks like this:

2

Click on CREATE A SYSTEM IMAGE, highlighted in red on the above image. You'll now get an option of where to save your system image.

3

The next screen will give you the option of what you want to save. Bear in mind that the more items that you choose, the larger your system image will be. Follow the on-screen prompts to create your system image. And remember to label the discs so that, if you ever do need to restore, it will be quick and easy for you. Also, keep your image in a safe place. And, as with all backups, I recommend that you make two copies, one to keep at your home and one to store off-site (I keep my second backup in a safe deposit box at the bank) just in case something catastrophic happens to your home.

I hope that this helps!

Connected Wheelchair Aids The Disabled

AT & T has partnered with wheelchair manufacturer Perimobil to develop a concept version of a "smart" wheelchair that connects wirelessly to the Internet.

The chair feeds data to the cloud and will enable users and healthcare providers to make changes based on the information.

connected-wheelchair-cushion

One of the most important capabilities is monitoring seat cushion pressure range. Pressure sores are a major health risk for folks who use wheel chairs. Using Permobil's Virtual Seating Coach app, information on the state of the seat cushion pressure is fed to the cloud and assessed by healthcare providers, so that necessary adjustments can be made.

Information about battery levels and maintenance can also be send\t to dealers, so they'll be able to better schedule maintenance and allot the proper amount of time needed for service calls. Since users need their chairs for mobility, this is an important part of quality of life.

Dual Boot Windows With Ubuntu In 4 Easy Steps

We introduced you to the free Linux Ubuntu operating system and described how you could replace Windows XP with Ubuntu in previous articles. In this article we're going to check out the option of running a dual boot with Windows. This is an especially good option for XP users who don't want to replace the operating system. Once you download and install Ubuntu, you can take XP offline, where it will be safe from security threats.

Now we're going to look at how you can run a dual boot of Windows and Linux Ubuntu in just four easy steps. What helps simplify the process is Wubi, an officially supported Windows installer for Ubuntu.

Step 1

Download Wubi from official page :

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer

You'll have the option to make a donation towards supporting Ubuntu. You can offer a contribution or just go on with your download, it's totally voluntary.

Once Wubi is successfully downloaded, we can move on...

Grandparent Scam Targets Seniors

I've mentioned what's called the "Grandparent Scam" before. It's when crooks either randomly e-mail people or call them on the phone pretending to be a grandchild.

Sometimes the story is that the grandchild is injured in a far-away place, or sometimes the grandchild is in trouble and needs money for a lawyer or bail.

hackerguy

Back when I worked in television news, I can remember two cases vividly. One was a woman who got a random e-mail saying that her grandson had been injured while hiking in Canada and needed money for medical treatment. In this case, it just so happened that this woman's grandson was camping in Canada. (The scammers didn't have any inside scoop, they sent this message to thousands of people.) She transferred thousands to the crooks.

In a second case, a couple received a phone call where the person on the other end said, "Help me, Grandpa. I'm in trouble."

The man said, "Joey?" thinking this was his grandson. Another man took the phone and identified himself as Joey's lawyer. He told them Joey had been arrested in Nevada and needed money for an attorney. He also said he wanted payment in gift cards, which these people dutifully went around and purchased from various stores (just as instructed) and mailed off to a P.O. box. Sometimes the scammers want the money wired to them via services like MoneyGram or Western Union.

The story is almost always the same variation. The grandchild is in trouble or injured and the money has to be send ASAP. You get very little opportunity, if any, to speak to the supposed grandchild and ask questions. If you press the matter, the "lawyer" gets hostile with you.

As time has gone by, these scammers are getting more sophisticated. They're purchasing

Sky-Map

Welcome to Sky-Map! This site offers you a chance to explore the sky with its interactive sky-map.

I'd recommend you start out by visiting the Getting Started section. It offers you and explanation of how to use the map, zoom in and out, look at photos and specific objects, and more!

After that I suggest going back to the main map page and clicking all the things! I had a blast just clicking on different objects in the sky, zooming in, and then checking out the next thing that caught my attention. I felt like a little kid stargazing for the first time again!

Once you've done that you have to check out Astro photo! There you can click on the sky and it will bring up images from that area, and you can click on them to see individual objects and learn more about them. I'm particularly fond of this one from the Orion constellation.

Back on the main page you can also use the list on the right side of the page to explore the sky. It is a list of attractive spots from around the universe.

I think this would be a fun site to share with kids who are interested in outer space and stargazing. Check it out today!

One More Big Deal

A Sad Fact, But a True One....

Hard drives are sensitive, complex mechanical devices. No matter what, 100% of the time, they will eventually fail - causing a crash. This can be a disaster.

What will you do when this happens? Sure, you can pull out your program CD's (like your Windows program) and reinstall your operating system. But what about ALL OF YOUR DATA? You know, pictures, videos, files, settings...the list goes on and on.

Now consider this: there's hundreds of millions of computer users out there, and 80% of them do NOT back their files up. Why? Because until now, backing everything up was a long and complicated process. You'd have to find specific things to back up, deal with directories, file extensions, etc. IF you were able to figure it out, there's no way you'd have the time to back up every single thing. I mean...you've gotta sleep sometime, right?

These problems are over for good!

Did I mention it's automatic? Well guess what? IT'S ALL AUTOMATIC!

The ClickFree Automatic Backup Hard Drive is here!

NO software. NO set up. NO time consuming steps. All you have to do is PLUG IT IN and it AUTOMATICALLY finds, scans and saves ALL of your files - you don't have to do anything!

It's a MASSIVE 1 TERABYTE of AUTOMATIC back-up space!

It's USB 3.0 and FULLY compatible with USB 2.0: If you're working from a new USB 3.0 machine, you're not gonna believe the speed! And if you're working with USB 2.0, don't worry - this is FULLY compatible and gives you the absolute maximum speed possible! It's the best of both worlds, and prepared for the future!

It'll even categorize your music, pictures, videos and documents into separate areas for maximum organization! Oh, and it works on multiple computers - you've gotta check this thing out!

Think about everything you keep on your computer: TONS of photos. Your ENTIRE music collection. Work documents, important files and sensitive information. And don't forget about those vacation and family gathering videos. You've gotta back that stuff up!

If You Think it's Hard or Time Consuming - YOU'RE WRONG!

Seriously, this thing couldn't be any easier to use: EVERYTHING IS AUTOMATIC!

All you have to do is pop it into your USB port and let it do it's thing. As soon as it's done, you'll be presented with ALL of your files, backed up and organized! And there's a TON of cool features on this thing, too. Check this out:

Open this up, and you can view ALL of your saved files the same way they were saved. You'll know exactly what you're looking at and exactly where it is!

This is COMPLETELY iTunes compatible! Take your iPhone, iPod or iPad, and this copies ALL of your media, backs it up, and automatically places it in your iTunes library! It's always there, and it's always backed up!

Go ahead and use it with any and all of your computers. From your work PC to your home computer - Windows OR Mac - doesn't matter, this can do it!

Check out the image below. This is what you're presented with after ClickFree automatically backs up all of your files. Remember, this starts as soon as you stick it into your computer. You don't have to do ANYTHING to get to this step:

Au Sable Lighthouse And The Milky Way

I captured this image of Au Sable Lighthouse one night on a backpacking trip. OK, truth be told, the reason I was backpacking is that the backcountry camp is only a 4 minute walk from the lighthouse – much more fun at night than the 3 mile round trip hike from the main parking area! At any rate, this one was tricky. The biggest problem was…(More)

Hurricane River Sunset

I was on my fall trip and decided to spend some time at the Hurricane River area. I had been to this location before and had always struggled to find a composition I liked. So, I spent quite a bit of time in a mental tug-of-war trying to decide if I even wanted to give this another go. In the end I decided to...(More)

Cataloochee Elk Bugle

Honestly, I'd love to have some epic story here, but it was pretty simple. I spotted this guy trying to steal, err, borrow cows from another bull. They would bugle back and forth, move in towards each other, and then this guy would (wisely) back off. He knew better than to..(More)
