George writes: All Time-Warner customers should be advised that Comcast and Time-Warner are merging, so if you are a current Time-Warner customer, you will be in the same boat. I think we should all have a choice as to whether or not we wish to participate this way. We received LOTS of unhappy comments/feedback about Comcast using customer's routers as public hotspots. But there IS a way to opt out of this feature. Directly from Comcast's website:
Keep in mind, this service might be a nice feature if you are traveling and need a WiFi connection – you don't need to have any private network passwords. You simply search for the Xfinity WiFi connection near you. It can only be accessed by paying Comcast customers, so no one is "freeloading." Comcast also states they have "provisioned the Xfinity WiFi feature to support robust usage, and therefore, we anticipate minimal impact to the in-home WiFi network." This service is not in place in all areas, mostly just major metropolitan areas currently, as shown on the map. Comcast has said they will send an email notifying when it becomes available in your area. Keep in mind you are set to opt-in by default so you would need to change your settings if you do not want this in your home, meaning if you ignore the email, your cable modem will be used for the service. Stay Connected In Your Car The iPhone was seen as a reinvention of the phone, and rightfully so. It spurred the start of what we now know as modern day smartphones. They are a part of life now, for better or for worse. The rise in popularity of smartphones has sparked an interest by automobile and vehicle manufacturers to be able to not only integrate smartphone technology into their driving experience, but also adopt that technology into the very core of the driving experience. TouchscreenThe first thing that people notice on a smartphone is that a touchscreen dominates the entire device. The first time you got a chance to test drive a smart phone, you probably poked and prodded the screen. The same technology has been moving into cars. The most notable example is on the Tesla Model S. The touchscreen on the Model S is a behemoth 17″ tablet-esque touchscreen that controls all car functions from music to temperature, to even browsing the Internet. (You know, for when you're parked) Elon Musk recently opened up most of Tesla Motor's patents to rival companies to utilize, which means companies like Nissan, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz may be implementing some beautiful touchscreen technology to their electric vehicles in the near future. Now all my icons on the desktop are highlighted and they have a check mark on them and I can't figure out how to change them back, I know you will have an answer for this, thanks. ~ Mary Andrew By default Windows uses 'drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' so that the desktop icon text looks transparent. If you have unintentionally highlighted all your desktop icons and you are using desktop wallpaper, you will see a border around your icon texts in the color you have as your solid background. Encrypt Your E-mail: Part 1 If you're concerned about privacy, you may wish to consider encrypting your e-mail communication. Encryption ensures that only you and the intended recipient of your message is able to read the contents. There are multiple ways to encrypt e-mail, but in this tutorial Iam going to describe how to install and use GpG4win encryption software, first we will define this tool and give a brief description about how asymmetric encryption that GpG4win uses works. GpG4win enables users to securely transport emails and files with the help of encryption and digital signatures. Encryption protects the contents against an unwanted party reading it. Digital signatures make sure that it was not modified and comes from a specific sender. GpG4win uses what is called Public key cryptography, this system involve using two keys, one for encryption and the second for decryption. We can distribute the public key everywhere publicity without any worry, however the private key should be kept secret to the maximum. A user will use his friend public key to encrypt the message; the receiver will use his private key (which should kept secret) to decrypt this message. Although different, the two parts of this key pair are mathematically linked. The public key is used to encrypt plaintext; whereas the private key is used to decrypt ciphertext. Messages encrypted with public key can only be decrypted using the same private key pair. Let us demonstrate how public key cryptography works using a simple example: Want more? Pack This is a super fun social media site that revolves around dogs! Become the leader of your pack today and create a page for the dog in your life. I highly recommend that you check out their About page, because it is awesome and explains why you should become a Pack Leader. When you arrive at the site it begins by asking you if you have a dog. If you answer No, you'll be asked if you love dogs, answer yes and they'll show you a series of dogs and you pick your favorites, and from that they'll create a personalized Dog Digest for you when you sign up. If you answer Yes, you get the option to Tell Me More or Add a Dog. If you keep clicking the learn more options it will walk you through why you might want to add your dog. You'll make a personalized homepage for your pup and be able to connect with and track other dogs. You can click Add My Dog at any time to get started. It will ask for your dog's name, dog breed, and then ask you to sign up to continue. The sign up options whether you have a dog or not are the same. You can either F-connect with Facebook or use your e-mail address to sign up. After you've signed up you'll continue customizing your dog's page. You'll select whether they're a boy dog or a girl dog, how old they are, how much they weigh, where the dog lives, add a tag line, and then upload a picture either from your computer or from Instagram. Once you've uploaded your photo, you'll be whisked away to what your dog's page will look like. Using the circle menu in the middle of the page you can edit what the layout, font, colors, and photo. When you're all set just click the Publish button in the bottom right corner. I ended up making a page for both my dogs – Dulcinea and Gypsy. One your page is created, you can scroll down until you see Create A Post to share another photo of your dog! I think this is a fun way to celebrate your dog and do something with all those cute pictures you have of said dog!
