Quick Tip

Cyber Criminals Attack The Cash Register

Tech giant Cisco says cyber criminals are attacking the cash register in order to get valuable personal information about consumers. Point-of-sale systems, which manage inventory, credit card numbers and things like loyalty cards are a prime target because of the wealth of information available.

And it's not like you have to be a computer genius to attack. As I told you in a previous article, crooks can purchase ready-made programs to put to work stealing information from consumers and these pieces of malware are getting more and more sophisticated. You probably remember last year when Target was hacked and many of their customers saw fraudulent charges on their cards.

What can you do? In this case the ball is in the court of the places you shop. Ask if their system is secure and check your bills frequently for any suspicious activity. In case you were wondering, here at WorldStart, we don't store customer credit card information on our servers, all of that information is transmitted directly to the credit card processor at the time of purchase.

Can you see why I love this thing?!

Get it? "Can"? Okay, sorry. I'm just REALLY excited, because this thing is awesome!

No matter how you deal with them, cans are always a pain in the rear!

If you have an old-school can opener, your hands get stiff and sore before you get half-way around the cut!

And if you have one of those newer, automatic appliances?

Well, if it's a REALLY heavy can, sometimes the magnet'll drop them after it's opened, causing a HUGE mess. And then you have to deal with that dangerous, sharp, lid stuck to the magnet!

(Not to mention they're big and bulky themselves, taking up a lot of precious kitchen real estate!)

So here's how it works:

You pop this thing down on the lid of a can.

Then you press the button.

Now you just sit back and watch it go!

The can opener works its way around the can by itself, and after it's done, you simply lift it up and the magnet pulls the lid off!

Open cans of ANY size!

Because of the way this works, it doesn't care if the can is 2 inches in diameter or 100 inches! It'll just go around its merry way until that can is OPEN!

Regular can openers leave those sharp, dangerous edges around the cut! Not only does it make it a risk to hold, those lids LOVE to rip open your garbage bags if you throw them away!

Better yet - the convenient size makes it a joke to store! You can put this with your silverware!

Heck, if you go camping, this is going to be a great tool to pack along!

AND IT'S SO CHEAP!

Electric can openers run you about $30 for a reliable one. Plus they're big, heavy, and take up a lot of kitchen space.

Why even bother?!

This isn't just smaller, lighter, and MORE EFFICIENT... it's cheaper too!

You can grab one of these amazing can openers for just $14.97!

Unless you wait until tomorrow, then you might just see a big "Out of Stock" notice!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/9884

There's a chance some of these might last until Tuesday but even then, the sale will be over and they'll cost $22.97!

Computers 101

Jeorjette writes:

I allow my granddaughters to use my computer and we all agree that we love the wallpaper we saw in the article about the Windows Charms bar. (attached is a screenshot.) I have combed the Internet looking for similar wallpaper. Please advise.

Jeorjette, that's actually the wallpaper from my own personal computer. The reason you haven't found it is that you are looking too far and wide. It's one of the wallpapers available for Windows from Microsoft. Finding it is simple.

Right-click on your desktop and choose Personalize.

Under Themes, choose Get more themes online.

You'll fine a large variety of themes to choose from, including Nature, Art, Holidays and Animals. This is a great place to find beautiful wallpapers that are free of viruses.

The theme you liked is found under Art (Illustrative) and is called Nicole Doll. I chose it because it reminded me of the Blythe doll I played with in the 1970s.

Just click on Download.

I hope you don't mind if I put in a shameless plug for Steve's Backcountry Gallery. You'll find some wonderful nature photography wallpapers there.

You can also check out this article on making your wallpaper a slideshow of favorite photographs.

Enjoy!

The answers you gave in Pogo Games on Android tablets are not the answers I was looking for.

I was a PAYING MEMBER FOR SEVERAL YEARS…I paid annually. I played every single day…all thru out the day…for years. I made close friends…I loved Pogo.
Then my laptop got stolen. Since then I cant afford a new laptop…I only have Android phone. I swear…I'm going thru withdrawals not being able to get on Pogo.

The app in the Google Play store only limits u…its like a tease…like here's some candy kid…but u cant have any.
I'm looking for a 100% SAFE AND AUTHENTIC DOWNLOAD…(I think its an APK but not sure)…so I can sign on into Pogo AND PLAY ALL THE GAMES I USED TO PLAY AND DO ALL THE THINGS I USED TO DO ON MY LAPTOP. I KNOW THERE IS A WAY to program Java on a Android phone to enable too play on Pogo. I"m just not sure EXACTLY how yet…

BUT…Im NOT going to stop looking til I find it. Do you by chance, know how this can be done? Please?

Sharon – there's no download that's going to enable you to do all of the thing things on an Android phone that you can do on your tablet, including play Flash and Java-based games. Flash is not compatible with later versions of Android by design. The folks at Google feel it's too problematic and not secure and don't want it on devices running the Android operating system. Java has major security issues as well. A whopping 93% of all web attacks originate from issues with Java.

There are some tricks that might allow you to run Flash on your Android tablet, but you'll have two big issues...

Al from Fort Collins, Colorado writes:

I've been told that you can't use Google with Windows 8, is that right??

No, Al that's not right. You can search Google in Windows 8 or 8.1, use Google Chrome as a browser and access your Gmail and other Google products. There is one grain of truth in there and that's if you use the built-in search function with Windows 8 or 8.1.

If you choose to search everywhere or web images or videos, the online search will be made in Bing and that can't be changed.

But you can still open...

What's Old Is New Again: Part 2

When last we left Kirk, Spock and company, a new Star Trek TV series called Star Trek: Phase 2 had been scrapped in favor of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which led to a successful movie franchise. Before being retired, the original crew had appeared in seven movies, along with several of them making guest appearances on Star Trek The Next Generation, and an excellent episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that combined footage from the original series episode The Trouble With Tribbles with new footage of the DS9 crew.

As the original Star Trek passed 40 years old, and the original actors started to pass on, it appeared that the original Trek was gone for good. But then an amazing thing happened. Home computers took a quantum leap forward, becoming as powerful as the computers that they used to do special effects for movies. The "liquid metal" effects that blew us all away in Terminator 2 were now suddenly within the reach of any amateur filmmaker who could afford a powerful enough computer to run them. Groups of Star Trek fans began doing their own short films, using CGI to create better effects than the makers of the original series could even dream of. Some of these fans got together, collected together some donations, and, using a combination of original scripts and scripts created from the aborted Star Trek: Phase 2 TV series to create hour-long episodes featuring the original characters called STAR TREK THE NEW VOYAGES: PHASE II and broadcasting them over the web...

Amanda's Coolsite

BookLikes

I'm an avid reader, and I'm also a lover of organization. This site will allow you to discover new books to read, share your thoughts about books you have read, as well as keep track of what you've read and what books you own.

When you arrive at the site you can scroll down the page to check out the different features the site offers. After doing that you can click the play button and watch a jaunty little video that shows the essence of reading life.

To sign up, you can either click the green Sign Up button or one the buttons that appear after you watch the video. There's a traditional registration form to fill out with your e-mail address, or you can F-connect with Facebook. I chose to F-connect.

Once you're signed in you'll have a pop up that asks you to check off the genres that you read. After you've checked off what you're interested in click Save. And once it registers that your changes have been saved you can click the x in the top right corner to make it go away. In the lower right side you'll find a pop up with the disclaimer about cookie collection by the site and how they use the data, after you've read it, click the x to make it go away.

You'll find yourself on the Tutorial page. Click the green Start button to begin the tutorial. The first thing it will do is help you setup your book blog. You'll create a title, write a blurb about yourself and your reading interests, and scroll through the template options to choose how your blog will look, then click Next.

Next they'll offer you a selection of blogs you might be interested to follow based on your genre selections previously. You don't have to follow anyone (I'm going to go back to it later) but if you see something that strikes your fancy click the follow button. When you're all done click the Next button at the bottom of the page.

I also skipped the Find Friends option for the time being, but if you want to do it now you can search for friends on Facebook and Twitter. When you're all set, you'll click the Next button again. Now you'll be located on your dashboard and they'll show you how it is all laid out. Once you've looked it over if you click off of it (I clicked near the top left of the page) it will disappear and you'll be on your dashboard – ready to go!

An important button to note is the green Dashboard button at the top of the page, if you click it you'll be provided with a drop down menu of navigation options. It's from here that you'll be able to access your Blog, Shelf, and Timeline. You'll also find great exploration options and goodies. Be sure to check it out!

This is a great site for readers who want to share what they're reading, what they thought about it, and discover new books to read. Check it out for yourself today!

Cub In A Tree

Angel Wings

This was just one of several keepers from a furious 45 minute session just before sunset. The light was absolutely perfect, and after observing where all the birds seemed to be congregating, I positioned myself so I could get some backlit wings as they came in. Now, I'd love to say that...(More)

Split Rock Moonrise

This photograph almost didn't happen! The day this was created was the day after the full moon, with moonrise coinciding with sunset pretty closely. I knew from checking my compass that the moon would be in a good location, but you can imagine my disappointment when I saw that huge bank of clouds along the horizon. We were literally packing it in and calling it a night when...(More)
